Killi101's Copper ApH with Cps?

THE POSIDON MK1

Hi all, this is my first post and attempt to make a water-gun...
it uses a leather o-ring at the back end of the pump to generate pressure,
the rest is mostly off insanitys_engineer's design. i decided to use copper pipe
for the pump, because i had the extra pipe but, finding an o-ring to fit on a
15mm and seal in a 22mm pipe was hard to find but i got one. the problem with
mine is that it only fits on the end. so far im down to 1 containment tank, but i
dont know how to place it, maybe i could use balloons like a CPS. i dont know much
about watergun building, this is my first try :)

it will use a 5l backpack bottle like insanitys_engineer (i dont want to look like im copying im sorry)
i want 2 cp tanks, if possible use balloons incased with a bottle just incase the balloons pop! but i dont mind bottles.
i have limited access to tools and i cant buy things off internet, stuck to depot stores next to my house.
ive found that in testing that i may need a 3rd check valve to stop water reaching the pump but im not sure yet and i dont think it will help.
unlike many people say you dont acctually need any couplers, i only used 1 at the end of the pump shaft. it is heavy but its manageable.
i dont know how im going to connect the hose pipe to the bottle and the check valve, need guidence on that. all in all ive got this far in 4 days!

here is a few screens of it so far:

those are the progress pics

this is what i want in the end
(please note that you may have to change the size of the image to see it damn mediafire...)

comments and help is much
appreciated!

Welcome to SSC!
ive found that in testing that i may need a 3rd check valve to stop water reaching the pump but im not sure yet and i dont think it will help.
What do you mean by "to stop water from reaching the pump"? Don't you want water to enter the pump?

Two check valves are all that is necessary.
i dont know how im going to connect the hose pipe to the bottle and the check valve, need guidence on that. all in all ive got this far in 4 days!
I don't know if they are called this in the UK, but there are barbed fittings that allow you to attach tubing to things. Brass ones look like the photo below.

All in all, it looks like you're 90% of the way done. Good work so far!

With your current setup, there's only room for one tank. Also, for CPS setups, you want the pressure chamber to face the firing valve directly without any turns. The setup you have is used for air pressure where air is not seperated from water and thus the presure chambers must point downwards. You'll also need more connections to make a second PC, of course. Surface area is what improves performance, which is what adding PC's really does. But if a PC can't be added, a PC with a higher surface area can be used, at the slight expense of ergonomics I guess.

So far it's looking good, keep at it.

Yea i know i need new parts... its costed a bit much more than i expected so far so ill upgrade it later, ive seen in the CPS super soaker series that the bladder is facing at the nozzle, but i dont really mind much, i just thought every bit more pressure i can get helps, i would like to think of this aph as a hybrid!.

i thought i would need a 3rd check valve because i thought that water wasnt supposed to get in the pump, with the leather fitting (it broke yesterday, it was too weak) the water came through

i tested the gun (before the leather came off) with balloons one where the 1st check valve should be and the second where the pc should be and it did work, the only problem was the leather couldnt take the second pump and i think my check valves are faulty.

I got a drill, put the pump together, and it gives a good seal, this way works really well i can pump water from resvoir to pc in 2-3 pumps and it is fast to fill up the pc

heres a pic
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php? ... mm&thumb=6

i will test it properly later today and i will drill another endcap to make a nozzle :)
i think bottles are better, im going to scrap the balloons when i get the parts, the balloons crumple under water's weight so they are tempory unless i can find a fix for it.
1 question: can i attach bottles without buying more pipe? i can get a reducer but i cant get more pipe... help needed

EDIT:
ok got it working, with balloons but i get a pathetic 10-15ft with it, the less water in pc the better and i have a nozzle, a 4.5mm one. the only upside is that i get a long shot time

Sorry for double posting but i now got a bottle attached by drilling a 15mm hole in a bottle cap... leaks alot but a big amount of PTFE thread tape stops it from flying off, i now get 25-30ft but it can do better, because the leaks in the bottle and the reducer would obliviously reduce total pressure. here are some pics:

its very useful for storage and the bottle-cap connection doesnt leak. :D

I've a feeling a 22mm pipe will, perhaps with a bit of filing, fit snugly inside a pop bottle mouth. Probably better than your current arrangement.
I work on Windows. My toolbox is Linux.

it broke...the rubber ring fell off the screw...and its deep in the pump shaft

upside is i get to unscrew the reducer to fix the leak at the same time

EDIT: Fixed it! but i feel a 1.5l bottle decreaces my range and pressure, the smaller the bottle the easier to pressurise and the stronger the bottle gets so i might go for a 750ml or 500ml bottle and in future use 2 of them, what would you suggest?

EDIT EDIT: ok, i now got a 500ml bottle ontop and i get 10m/32ft on the 4.5mm nozzle not bad so far and i get 3-3.5m/9ft on the riot blast, only issue is that is a small blast and for both uses i need 2 people to fire it (me and one other) otherwise the bottle shoots up as a rocket...the old leaks have come back and supisingly the leak on the bottle isnt so bad but i really need a solution because i cant walk around with another person just to use one gun and i cant walk around scared that using 3 pumps would make the pc abandon me.

i really need assistance here i call for your guidence...

Well, i guess no-ones going to anwser for now, besides im going to india tomorrow^^ but over there i plan to make a dog house with a water cooler (spray) so ill try that. for my aph i got another tee coupler to make a second pc, im now going to try and make the pcs from pipe it self, probably plastic of some kind, only thing is i need them to be compression screwable and i assume the reducers is going to be a pain. i will be online but still cya

Hmm, I would try to use epoxy to fasten the bottle into a loosely fitting threaded t-joint. That way your bottle can't rocket off, and the homemade becomes manageable.

Edit: Sorry about the pic, I'm bad with paint.

yea sounds good if i have no other solution, ill keep that in mind thanks, does anyone know what kind of pipe i could use to make a pc, if pvc, ok but what would it be called in the UK, because ive heard that some drain pipe can take 9 bars so i could use that but i cant order so if there are any alternatives, please tell me!

Normal waste pipe won't withstand pressure, at least not reliably. You need something stronger.

like what. do you know anything i could use for it?, i looked at PTFE pipe or somthing, i got the name wrong but it is wide enough only problem is that it is bendy.

EDIT: i forgot, in india, the parts for an aph is really cheap, for most of the parts (the shell, no pump shaft or pcs) costs like 700 rupees, about 9.74 pounds, although it is made from steel or iron, cant tell...and heavy. the parts screw on and pipe is pre cut to what ever size you need. i will post pics soon, the down sides are, heavy, some parts cheaply made so they dont screw on properly, the check valves are swing only and 15mm pipe doesnt fit in 22mm pipe because wall thickness is like 2-3mm BIGGG. i think water flow will be turbulent because fittings arnt consistant with the pipe i dont know how to explain to you, i could only tell you if you saw it yourself. all in all i think aphs in india is possible, to a certain extent!
