CPS 21k...brokenish? Please help

Post by The Stealthy Panda » Sat Apr 21, 2007 11:52 pm

My CPS 21000 hasn't worked since the K-mod. Well, it shoots, but only the standard distance for a 2100, which is, like, 30-35 feet, and only for half a second. It leaks a bit, but not nearly enough to cause enough pressure loss to explain this kind of malperformance. Somebody, please, what's wrong with it?

First, let me ask you something:

How many ballons have you used? Is the PRV(check valve) removed?

If you used more than 25-30 ballons without a PRVD, the pressure release valve might be activated each time you pump, so almost no pressure is created. It would be safer to reduce the number of ballons you used to k-mod your 2100 in this case.

It should take around 35-40 balloons to get the PRV to kick in for a CPS 2100 - the valve is tougher than that of most guns. I'd suggest taking off balloons in intervals of 5 until it functions normally. However, you sholdn't have to take off that many. Also, it is not natural for any water gun to leak, so I would find the source of that.

I did a check valve freeze, and used 70 balloons. As for the leaking, sometimes it leaks from the nozzle, sometimes from the back. I'll try to locate the leak, and I'll get back to you.

Okay, now it's only leaking from the nozzle. is there some way I can open the trigger valve to get at the problem?

Are you sure that there's no leak in the PRV seal? That could explain the pressure loss and leakage. The only way the source could physically be coming from the trigger valve is if you blew out a crack in the trigger valve, and you'd notice if that happened [huge bang, water flying everywhere, etc.]. However, that would also create pressure loss and leakage, so double check that there aren't any cracks.

Only open the trigger valve if you are confident in your ability to re-glue it back so well that it will hold the pressure demanded by the k-mod. Nearly every 2100 has a trigger valve closed via glue, so you'd have to saw it, being careful not to saw too deeply at any point.

In the Mark I and III 2100s, the outer nozzle can screw off. If yours does, double check that the leak is really coming exclusively from within that and that all other internal parts are dry.

The PRV on my 2100 (mkII, ome w/ glued pump cap, nozzle, and weak trigger piece) seems to be very sensitive. I had 15 balloons and the PRV still went in after 2 pumps. I simply removed the balloons and cancelled the mod. Weird.

Never mind. I fixed it by attaching the rubber PC part to the plastic PC part. I have no idea why this worked, or even if it was what fixed it. Anyway, it works great now. Thanks, though, I did the taking off balloons thing, I think that helped.

P.S.: It now has around 55 balloons, and shoots 47 feet at 45 degrees, and 47 feet flat, when using glycerin (read Doom's "additives" article). Thanks for the help!

P.P.S.: Maybe it can heal itself... :p
