PSP vs Nintendo DS

I think the DS is better than PSP. I would of liked PSP if they somehow made it play DVDs and PS1 and PS2 games. What was really the point of the movies? I mean you buy lets say..........Episode III Revenge of the Sith for PSP. You can watch that movie on the PSP, but if you want to watch it on a TV then you gotta buy the same movie again. (correct me if i'm wrong because you might be able to hook it up to a TV) The other thing is with PSP yes the graphics are really good, but in my opinion the graphics don't matter, what does is the gameplay. Super Mario 64 is still my favorite game to this date because it was a challenge to beat and had some pretty good gameplay, and creativity. The way I look at it if the designers spend too much time on the graphics the gameplay won't be as good thus ruining the game. I'm not saying the games aren't good, but the DS has a better chance of games like that. That's just my opinion though, and both systems have ups and downs. One for the DS would be thus annoying little dots that show up on the touch screen that your to afraid to scratch off because you might damage the screen. I'm a new guy and sorry for bringing up a sort of deads topic.

I really don't understand why everyone doesn't like the PSP because it can play movies and music as well as games. And the games are really good ones that most people, especially playstation fans will like. I've played one on several occasions and I really do think it beats the DS. And I'm not being biased because my sister owns a DS and I play that more often than I do a PSP. The PSP's joystick controller, ginormous colour screen, and superior graphics kill the competition. Oh no, it costs more? That's because it can play movies and music if you want to! And a portable device capable of playing ps1 and ps2 games? Are you out of your mind?
Do not underestimate the power of stupidity in large groups

It really depends on what games you like. However, the multimedia features on the PSP are very expensive (except for the UMD movies, which are neat).
Just think about this: for movies and music, Archos sells a 20 gig. music/video player for $250. The same price as a PSP without games. At about $100 per gig for compatable media (at CircuitCity, 2gig Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo for $200), it would cost $2250 just to equal the space in the Archos player. Various expansions for the DS use Compact Flash or SecureDigital cards to play movies and music. For 20 gigs, it would cost a total of $1655 (with SD) or $1155 (with CF). Still very expensive, but a lot less expensive than the PSP.
With gameplay, how could the PSP play PS1 or PS2 games? On the PSP there are two shoulder buttons and a little analoge nub. On both the consoles, there are four shoulder buttons and two analogue sticks. The missing controls make it difficult to directly port games from the console to the handheld.
I guess I just prefer the DS, even with its lack of some abilities.

Voted DS, mainly because no handheld is worth $350 CAN. No handled is even worth over $150. I am one of those gamers who still consider small handheld screens to be inferior to a TV screen experience. The PSP is more than the curent XBOX package. Portable image files? I am sure thats great for the porn addict on the go. But those features should be an add-on for the rest of us who still buy handhelds for gaming purposes only. For people who like spending $200 more because they are bored on the bus and like to watch Fantastic 4 on a tiny screen, go ahead its your money. I simply rather not play PSP games or wait till they come with a console adapter than spend $350 on something that will be $100 in 3 years.
Plus the US version gets eventualy lines on the screen that can not be removed. Sure, it can be returned for a new model, but still.

My vote is for PSP. Personally I think Nintendo has been trying to cater to the much younger market and they have, for the most part, ignored the 18+ demographic. Plus the PSP is capable of doing so much more than the DS.
Is there a good chance of me buying either system? No. They're both too expensive for my taste, and I figure that I have plenty of time to play video games, listen to music, watch movies, etc. when I'm home, so when I'm not home, I generally like to do other things to entertain myself.

I am planning to buy a DS or DS light because of New Super Mario Brothers and Zelda Houreglass. Its those exlusive Nintedo titles that usualy make me buy Nintendo systems(Also why I intend to get the Wii) Those titles are tradition by now since the 80s. Although personaly, I still would like to use a gameboy console adapter for those games, since a TV screen is still superior to a handheld. But DS games don't have an adapter yet.
Don't see myself buying a PSP any time soon. The only game I was interested was GTA Liberty Stories, and I bought it now for PS2. The problem with PSP is, that it has a lack of exlusive titles that are very different from the PS2. It usualy has deviated PS2 titles almost identical to the PS2 version just with worse graphics and controlls due to the absense of the analog.
If I think about it, the PSP reminds me of the Sega Gamegear that came out in the early 90s and was the competitor of the original Gameboy. It also cost more than the Sega Genesis which was the current state of the arts console. The gamegear had colour, better graphics and could be used to watch TV wherever you go. It was hailed as superior to the grey coloured Gameboy. But other than Sonic, the Gamegrear didn't have any great exclusive titles, and the Gameboy was eventualy eable to muscle it out of the market.
On a sidenote, back then in the 90s, very often the Sega Genesis and Gamegrear comercials where followed by the Super Soaker 50 and Supersoaker 100 comercials. Ahhhh good times.

ds stinks
Ds is horrible. Nintendo never knows what they are doing. PSP, on the other hand, rocks.

@ZoccoZ Go for the DS Lite! It is smaller, the backlight is brighter, and its lighter than the "DS fat" (normal DS). You should also get Metroid Prime:Hunters.
... Only thing I can say is that the DS fits well in the pocket, no load time because of the cartridges in the DS, and also the Wi-Fi play! You can play with random people from around the globe in about 10 or more different games (I haven't checked recently). All you need is a wireless router/DS usb connector/wireless network card (1 of the 3). Most of all, its way cheaper than the PSP, because it focuses on gaming, not MP3s, radio, movies (that cost lots more than DVDS), etc. I'll admit that its cool, but its Sony's first handheld system, so there are some bugs, like this: Nobody wants to wait for a game to load. They would much rather have an instant loading game, compared to a game that takes a while to load. DS is good for that. No wait means more gaming.
Wii will rock the PS3's socks off.Ds is horrible. Nintendo never knows what they are doing

I agree with the TV screen (console) games, but when you say XBOX, do you mean the normal one, or the 360? Because I'm sure that the 360 package is around $500. Even though my brother got the 360 for free, I think it would be worth the $500 CAD, as you can play HD, and even on the normal component video style, the graphics are good. Good choice not getting the PSP, as the games and movies are more than you would ever pay for the DS games.Voted DS, mainly because no handheld is worth $350 CAN. No handled is even worth over $150. I meant the original XBOX. I think I wrote that post when the 360 wasn't out yet.
Speaking of the 360, I plan to get one once they bring the upcoming bundle. By then they should have fixed most of the bugs of the original 360 consoles. Elders scrolls and certain other RPGs are some of the main reasons why I would get a 360. Other than Final Fantasy and certain other few RPGs, Japanese RPGs no longer seem that great due to the art style. While Japanese developers claim that Microsoft is fairly narrowminded in adapting more of a japanese style resulting in the poor 360 sales in Japan, the exact same thing can be even more said about most Japanese RPGs when it comes to cultural narrow mindness. Other than Japanese gamers and Manga lovers, most people on the global market prefer realistic looking game sprites and not oversized heads and disproportionate eyes. And thats why my taste now shifts from Sony to Microsoft. Plus $800 CAN(not including games or extra controllers) for a PS3 is freaking nuts.
At this point I will get the DS lite if I get a DS. Same with the Wii. Nintendo has the certain element of having unique titles that differ from the competitors making the purchase worth it. I already have a better version of the PSP with a bigger screen and better controlls and games...and its called PS2.
