Post by DX » Thu Jun 03, 2004 1:03 am

1. I before E except after C
2. Read your post before you post it
3. A period is NO replacement for a comma!
4. Using like, kinda, yr, u, people makes you sound inexperienced userish
5. Do not use "bakpak"
6. Proper nouns are capitalized, common ones ARE NOT
7. The $ symbol comes BEFORE the amount
8. The worst spelling of catapult ive ever seen: catupuld
9. Camouflage, not camolage, camoflage, camofluege
10. Pay attention in school!
11. Ahhhhh: alunched, omething ,ckeck, stablizers, srounded, rutine, sam range, dissapointed, saporting, parten, genune, louzey, soem, You get the point
12. [Neobird:] If you list a dollar amount, try to remember to put the currency after it, e.g. $10USD or $5CDN, you get the idea. Foreign symbols too, like £10 (that's Alt+(Numpad)0163 for our American friends here). The Euro sign (€) is Alt+(Numpad)0128.

now your making no sense. I spelled camouflage the way you said in your second post, although you said we were both wrong. 2, dissapointed is spelled DISSAPOINTED. I am not saying dictionary.com is wrong, just telling you to try a dictionary (the REAL kind) and btw is this some kind of UK spelling I don't get?

sorry, Ive been studying 24-7 for the SAT II and am a bit out of sorts. I can't focus on anything anymore so I made a few mistakes. :( you're right with those two words, and dictionary.com isnt very trustworthy. And theres no UK thing its just I can't do anything right with the pressure of the test.

BUMPED, Interesting thread.

By the way, I remember reading about sniper's spelling of the word "certainly", he spelled it "soy-tan-ly". I'll try and dig it up.
I don't check this forum anymore.

I have to raise this topic again, there have been some errors that I can't believe I've seen recently.

Incorrect [taken from actual posts] Correct way
ban-----------------------------------------------ban
gallery ------------------------------------------gallery
control------------------------------------------control
adapt--------------------------------------------adapt
dying--------------------------------------------dying
balloon ---------balloon
Duxburian, Duxburian-------------------------Duxburian

I have spotted at least 150 more of these very basic errors. Please review, read through your posts, and use the edit button if you catch a mistake later. If you don't know a word, LOOK IT UP! Some of the errors listed here were not "mistakes," the posters didn't know how to spell a few of the words.

Actually, 'phenomenal' and 'disappointed' are both right.

Plus, 'a lot' and 'pretty' you have the same on both sides.

I know, I can't help that, the board auto-changes some of those words. I keep changing some to the way they were on the posts, and the board corrects them by itself. So if you see errors like the correct spelling on both sides, I didn't do that.

Welcome these into the word filter. There currently are 164 items in the filter. 99% of them are spelling errors. Do not rely on the filter, please learn to spell correctly anyway. Remember, all of those were actual mistakes. If you find a common spelling mistake post it here and I'll add it to the filter. Same goes for problems with the filter, sometimes it messes up legitimate words.

I remember one day going through maybe 30 or so topics pulling out common mistakes. There really are a lot, and the filter does wonders. Some of you guys wouldn't be in great shape (banned/ro) if it wasn't for the filter.

Oh BTW guys, it's "disappointed," as in "appointment."
And why do people put two "p"s in "Triple"? It's the TRIPLE CHARGE, not triple CHARGE!
And there is only ONE "l" in POWERFUL. Thank Goodness Doom set up the filter to automatically make it one "l".
Whatever music you listen to probably sucks.

Ok, I took those suggestions from Soakologist. It's in the filter now.

Also, I added a lot of other things. Like now you can't type in a billion exclamation points or question marks. It will shorten it, at least a bit.

Phenomenal is spelled with an 'e' not an 'I'

EDIT: I corrected it to spelled for you, Doom, but actually both spelt and spelled are correct.

If you're going to keep ripping apart posts, it's spelled not spelt. I'll fix that later.
