Political discussion
For years we've had a rule that was stated only in a sticky that there will be no political discussion here. After some thought, I realized barely anyone knew about that rule anyway and I can't see any harm coming from political discussions at this point. Politics are free to be discussed now. With the 2008 US presidential election coming up too there could be some interesting discussion to keep us busy during the off-season.

Re: Political discussion
I don't know...recently I've decided it's usually best to keep politics out of other discussions. People who agree with you won't change their opinions, but you'll lose a lot respect from those who disagree with you.
Well, I guess I have nothing against discussion, but I'd still encourage people not to do it. Fortunately the forums keep off-topic discussions well hidden.

Re: Political discussion
It is funny to watch the girls fighting for obama against a hardcore republican teacher. It just makes me laugh. Mainly because their thoughts do not matter at all for a few years.

Re: Political discussion
I agree with your points. Those are precisely the reasons I didn't allow political discussion before. And I'll admit I'm a little hesitant now, but I think (or hope) we can be respectful. Given that barely anyone discusses politics here anyway (as the rule was unenforced), there's been little opportunity for problems.Silence wrote:I don't know...recently I've decided it's usually best to keep politics out of other discussions. Any rules, of course, can be changed in the future. Maybe I'll feel different in a few days.

Re: Political discussion
Just as a general note, no political discussion is allowed again. I've thought about it and decided to reinstate this rule.

Re: Political discussion
Has there actually been any political discussion in this period?

None occurred. The forum's been too slow.

Does mentioning Obama fluffing his oath count as political discussion

Not really. And I noticed that too. I thought it was amusing.
