Sorry, i thought just from the shape of the PC in the pic that it would be cylindrical. Even with a spherical PC, your still going to have to choose between very limited shot time, or essentially a thick balloon hanging over the sides that is likely to break.

Also, piston guns like the rattler should have 2 check valves; otherwise it would not likely work. I would assume that the second check valve was pump. This is the way that Hasbro always does it.

For the case for the new internals, to make them internals, you could take a try at molding plastic, or you cold shape a shell of wood or foam.

Well, no luck. JLspacemarine didn't detail how he made the PC. I'll probably attach the balloon onto the barb, fill it with air, and just make a temporary ball valve setup to hold the air in. Then I'll just k-mod it.

@atvan, I can deal with limited shot time, I'll just tap shoot, although that might be hard with a ball valve.

I'll maybe just use a plastic water bottle for a PC case. The PC case doesn't need to withstand a lot of pressure, right? I'll maybe just cable tie it on.

As air is both flexible and compressible, your method won't work very well. The balloon will either be too big to put more balloons on, or too flexible. An idea I had, that might not work, would be to fill the first balloon with plaster, making a solid shell, then when you're done, just break the plaster and pour out the pieces. This might be easier if you blow a bubble in the plaster, making a weak point, as well as more space for the plaster to break.

I still think the balloons won't work in this setup, but your welcome to try.

It's definitely possible to just fill the first balloon with air and stretch the others over it (I did it) but you'd need to use a lot more than the 25 balloons I used (the shop was closed and I never got round to buying more)

I guess that would work, but the plaster method would probably be easier. I've actually layered balloons by just putting the balloons over a pencil. This is probably still easier than inflating the balloons, especially if you have somebody to help you, though I did it on my own.

Off topic- is it just me or is the smilie here creepy- :)

I'll probably try the pencil method. For a shell I will probably shape some craft foam and coat it in Elmer's glue. Any other cheap methods?

@atvan: It's the eyes, man... :)

Make sure to use the eraser end of the pencil.

For the housing, foam makes a lot of sense. If you use the craft foam, the paper layers could serve as hinges- cut through the first paper layer, and the foam, but leave the second paper layer as a hinge. To get an idea of how nice foam can look, google

RCPowers f 22

And look at the nose of the first two images under images. You can make some pretty good shapes, and those are only with strait lines. Then spray paint the gun, and it'll look real nice. Also, for the casing, make some way to easily access the internals, either via a hatch, or screws like the rest of the gun.

Finally, your ignoring what I'm saying about the PC. Why?

I'll probably use velcro for the foam casing, screws would just tear through the soft material. Like I said, atvan, I don't have a Hydro Cannon, and I can deal with a short shot time.

I haven't gone to Lowe's yet for the teflon tape, cement and primer, check valve, and hose barbs. I just realized that the 45 elbow and the tee would leave some dead space. Would this be a problem? Also, the hole where the nozzle used to go is a perfect size for my 45 degree elbow. I am planning to lay the assembly in the empty space in the shell (with some parts outside) and hot glue it to the right half of the shell. Might it have problems with structure?

Just want to say that you probably don't need a check valve- the gun should already have one there, as a piston gun is just a pump (2 check valves) and a reservoir, without a PC.

@strato: The check valve on the rattler is between the reservoir and the pump. It only has one because it is a piston weapon. You would need to add a second one between the pump and the pc, and the nozzle would have to include the trigger mechanism.

I do need a check valve.

I'm pretty sure that the gun already has 2, because if it did not have one by the nozzle, when you pulled out the pump, air would come in from the nozzle instead of water from the reservoir.

Could a mod merge these posts, my edit button did not appear.

A picture of the second check valve in the Helix is attached.

Pic from here.

I found a youtube video of a Rattler's internals. Could anyone please show me where the second check valve is? I am thinking it's in the nozzle.

It's not in the nozzle. I the vid, the person nozzle drilled it. If it was in the nozzle, it wouldn't work. It almost seems that Hasbro made a double check valve.
