Opening XP270
How does one open the XP 270 without destroying the case entirely? Does anyone have an XP 270 that they've opened before?

Yes, actually. I'd rather not saw it off as I still have the ability to return it. The XP 270 I bought does not take many pumps. My old one used to take 10 without the PR valve kicking in.

I'd go for the return-replace first, or complain to Hasbro about it. There's not much you can do, other than sawing out the PRV. As for the pump cap, most of them can be pried off but if it's completely glued on, like with the Flash Flood's, you'll have to cut it.

Heh. Funny thing, that, because I've already returned it once.

Apparently, martianshark is having the same problem. Looks like the defect is across all XP270 re-releases. Is the pump cap glued on? Can it be rotated? If so, you can probably pry it off with flatheaded screwdrivers and/or pliers.

I've heard about dipping it in boiling water. It will melt the glue, but not the plastic, so it will come off cleanly, and when you want to put it back on, you just super glue it.

Finnster, I was skeptical about that, but Wikipedia says that polypropylene melts at 160 degrees Celsius, well above the boiling point of water. However, I'd still be worried about stickers and any weaker plastic than what's used for the pipe and shell.
