However bad the X or XL may have been, they're still probably considerably higher quality and battle practical than any post-2002 blaster, though blasters like the FF and Vindicator do have a better power to size ratio. (but that alone doesn't determine practicality; the FF triggers wear out and/or break as easily as paper drumheads on toy drums)

Riot blasts aren't even that useful. A long range nozzle can still soak substantially at close range and thus are still the most important nozzles to pay attention to. Still, they are the second most useful type of nozzle, and are still underused compared to gimmick nozzles. (like the less useful typhoons or the completely useless fan blast)

The only reason the riot blast would be of any use is in an all out soakfest. You could ambush someone and drench a lot more than a stream would - for at least the Artic Blast or it's near cousins and brothers. My mods helped the riot blast alot, letting it reach about 30 feet plus a big power boast.

I think the Vindicator well outdoes the FF, because even with a Colussus or other power-increasing mod the FFs don't reach 40 feet, unless you do many layers of bike tube. The Vindicator on the other hand gets about 45 without being modded, and could probably break 50 if modded. The Vindicator also has a larger reservior, larger pressure chamber, more nozzles, a better pump, and a better trigger. The grip is also a decent size in relation to FFs and especially Artic Blasts.

I think the best gun in the 2002-2009 range personally is the Vindicator, with it's smaller and similar brothers behind it (Expedition, Renegade, Pulse Master). Buzz Bee WW has definately had the stronger edge recently, and Larami SS has made weaker models than ever before. It's clear!

Well that's because the AB's stream isn't designed for range, only for conservation. With a nozzle designed for range, it is capable of considerably more soakage. Not as much as a riot (for lower powered blasters) but still substantial, and in almost every situation, range is going to matter more anyway, even in soakfests. (unless you're playing indoors or something)

Also, Larami's been long gone. Many of their engineers are now at BBT, hence why the WW line has stepped and trampled on the SS line in the past few years.

More range means more power, and that can be considerably better than an a weak riot blast like AB or FF's. It also would, in a soakfest if you were ambushing someone, have a higher chance of them fleeing, and with a higher shot time as well; it's harder to dodge. If you miss with a riot blast, you have to repump which can be hard if surrounded. The ambush would be against you after you miss.
