Welcome to SSC. You don't need to sign your post with your name, as everybody looks at the post's heading anyway.

Whatever rules you use, make sure they are crystal clear and agreed to by each member of each team. You could try, "no shooting at people who are refilling"--but this means that you shouldn't be able to use the hose, either. Thus, I like being able to shoot at those who are refilling and being able to use the hose--even if soakers have greater range than the hose, the hose can usually scare people away long enough to refill.

1HK (One hit kill) is generally good, as long as you allow the "dead" people to come back after drying off or returning to a base. However, this rule is generally harder to enforce...

Make sure you divide the teams equally and that each team has similar firepower. Sure, it's not exactly a rule, but this makes each war more fun.

^I have listed in that topic several types of games which can be played for kills, points, and score.

You don't need to divide teams equally or have equally good guns. You could have an intense battle with variances, but if your teams are brand new, then go ahead and make things nice and even.

@Silent Guy: Forget soaked or driven aside, hose users can be wiped off the face of the earth. That is if you know how to fight a hose, which is very easy. If the choice were hose or dollar store pistol, I would take the dollar store pistol.

Wow, that's actually a nice list of 1HK games. I will certainly try out the more "arcane" ones, as they could put a spark in the teams I play with.

I don't say you have to divide the teams nicely--I know the RM has better tech than Waterbridge, but the wars work out well--and it's better to be with your best friends fighting another group, but it's not pleasant to be using the smaller Max-Ds and be fighting against CPS power. This could be especially disheartening for newbies, partly because their skill might not be able to make up for the power disadvantage. As you've said, you need to capitalize on the strengths of each of your weapons and the weaknesses of your enemies' weapons.

I don't think a dollar-store's pistol could beat a hose, though that may stem from a bad (or good, for that matter) experience on your part. The main problem with hoses is their range/lamination, or the lack thereof. However, with inexperienced warriors who could get scared by the hose, the sheer output and "PC" capacity could be overwhelming. No, I wouldn't use a hose against you if I had a choice...

I wouldn't pick the pistol to fight with, I would pick it because you can run away with it. With a hose you are stuck there, and at the complete mercy of any gun that outranges it. A hose typically has up to 30, possibly 40ft range if you've got a good one, and you know how many guns can do better than that...and those experiences were before such things as the water cannon! :p

water cannon > hose, or in gamer-talk:
water cannon pwns hose

'nuff said.

Hmm...that is a good point. I always knew a powerful homemade or a modded CPS gun could outdo a hose, even in output, and I also knew that the hose gives you limited mobility, but I never really linked the two. Thanks.

I'm designing a backpack-style CPR SuperCharger--basically, the hose completes about 50-75% of the pressurization, and then you use a pump with a small ID to do the rest. Sure, it's just a standard PR soaker with QFD, but it's designed to be a high-range and high-output mobile "hose."
