I just finshed my WBL last night. It shoots like a champ, 60 psi (as much as the tire valve is rated for)at a 10 degree angle shoots just over 80 feet! I'll take pictures of it and post em' here.

EDIT:

Here we go....

Sounds great, but don't you think that should go in a new topic? It would seem better fitted in one. I'll do it.

Aha, thanks Doom.

I am uploding a few things, but the video we took didn't even get part of the balloon!

EDIT: Picture is now uploaded at my site to save space at SSC!

Looks good. I see you choose the cost-effective valve solution, the ball valve. Why did you choose that kind of ball valve, it's more expensive than the normal kind?

Remember to turn the valve as fast as possible. This is a projectile gun, the faster the valve opens the better. That is why some people use electric valves such as solenoids. That should make you're gun perform as good as possible. ;)

That looks really cool. You can get other ideas for wbl's in this book called backyard ballistics. It shows how to make several different kinds of potato cannons. But you could probably use a water balloon for fun.

[at]Doom

I went the ball valve because the electric valve is 1) more expensive, 2) dangerious if water hits it and 3) we found a ball valve that can we can turn VERY fast (it can open in about a 1/2 a second).

I modified the AquaLab's WBL 3.2 plan so it is slightly cheaper and more simple to make. So kudo's to them.

So that's why you choose that one? I might have to look at those some time, they sound like a good deal if they open fast. Try greasing it, I'm not sure how to but I do know some people have done that. I think they close it, apply the great on both sides, and then turn it a few times to get it spread around the ball. Then they clean it out of course. ;)

Right. That is why I bought it.

Also they are considerbly cheaper than electric ones, Compare:

1" Ball Valve: $7.85 at Lowes
VS.
Automatic Anti-siphon valve: $15.99 at Lowes

And I do use a compressor to pump it fully, but the bike pump can get to 60-70 PSI if you work hard.

EDIT: Update: it gets 150 feet [at] 70 PSI at a 45 degree angle, really nice shot! Very accurate too, but it all depends on the packing...

What I use for packing is some sXPBackfire-esque cotton insulation (we are doing our new addition with it), then we tried pushing it in 3/4's of the way and then stuck the balloon in, it was worth a try... Then we fired it... BAM! 120+ feet! works every time.

We should post materials needed and directions to build ALL homemades. We need the tech section to get filled! And maybe the PVC piston soaker, too.

Just out of curiosity, how do you pressurize this? We don't have any air pressurizers at our house, and only one bike pump.
Rereading these forums make me feel old >.<

my wbl is optimum at about 66psi, you can still use a bike pump for that. btw racer, I like your design, but I also think you should move the ball valve over to the barrel side, you might get better performance that way. also, try it at a higher angle, unless you don't have the space.

You can pretty much ignore the times on that, I rarely ever have Xfire on when I play. I should, though.

a) cool
b. (stupid smilies) what was the total price (valves, gauges, tubing, the whole 9 yards.
c) does it have a breach load
d) is there a chane to be able to have an accurate scope? (or do u have o angle the gun if you want to shoot anything more than say 50 feet.)
e) how long does it take to compress

Racer, where are the designes for your WBL? Are they even online?
