Pre Pressurized Tank

Post by StormGlorious » Sun Jun 01, 2008 12:20 am

The one problem that alot of WBL's have is long reloading times. My friend and I have just finished a Tank that allows for 10 to 15 shots before you have to reload. With pre-filled water balloons I imagine that we could get of maybe 10 shots a minute. Here are some pictures, taken in my friends room.

Nice tank. That should be useful in more remote areas. Not much development has been done in this area so anything is great.

How did you modify this tank to store air? Was it a propane tank or something similar? I've been considering modifying an old propane tank my parents have that they don't have any use for but I know nothing about the process.

Great idea! It certain solves the charging problem, provided you have enough air. Simple things like this help immensely, and for obvious reasons. I would actually recommend against a rapid-fire approach: It seems better to take careful and and do something tactical, though the ability to shoot many really fast doesn't hurt either.

I would never rapid fire in an actual war, I said that merely to show how efficient this is.
It is an old propane tank. We charge it to 470 psi. It works very nicely. I love it because it makes WBL tactically effecient.

470 psi? That is really high, much higher than anything Ben and I have worked with. Ben and I are limited by our air compressor, which only gets up to 150 psi, though it was made for automotive work. Did you hand pump that or use a compressor?

It looks like there's a compressor in the pictures.

Make sure you use metal parts for your water balloon launcher. Even thin copper or brass should hold, but I wouldn't trust PVC in this situation. Unfortunately, the combined weight of a metal launcher and a metal tank could be cumbersome.

Oops. I guess I didn't see that; I was just looking at the tank I suppose. I just didn't think any "conventional" compressor would get that high, but I guess I'm wrong.

Tire, ball, and balloon inflaters, which are the most common, don't get such pressures. But compressors for air tools definitely do, and there are probably a bunch of products for pressures in between 100 PSI and HPA pressures.

We don't give the Wbl 470 PSI, only the tank. The WBL has a PRV which activates at 80 PSI. This was put in to avoid any catastrophic injuries. Just cleaning up confusion.

If you got a regulator to put on your air chamber it would make it a lot more efficient and safer. Pressure relief valves are a great idea (see my new CAP thread) but a regulator would make more sense here.

Okay, thanks Ben we'll keep that thought in mind.

Rereading what I wrote, I didn't quite say what I meant. You should still keep the relief valve on the WBL but a regulator in addition would be best. That way you don't waste excess air and still have all the safety of a relief valve.

Does your launcher have a breech or bolt? With one, you could blast off a shot every 3-5 seconds or so. I am currently working on a more portable launcher right now that has a bolt, using an onboard pump and small single shot pressure chamber, which is currently the bottleneck for its rate of fire.

C-A_99- The launcher somewhat resembles a douchenator, with a slightly larger PC. However, I to am working on a rifle-like WBL aswell. I call it 'Posiedon'. I am currently trying to find out the how small I can get the PC without reducing range too much. The idea with the small PC is for fast pressurization. The gun is not designed to shoot hundreds of meters, but rather 80-90 feet. Kind-of like the 'Winchester' of water warfare.
