Seriously. Im not sure if the size of the air chamber would even change linearly. Prolly exponetially, which means a very large PC. If im right, thats 421875 square cm. Break out the PVC! Or you can make it out of metal and get like, 3000 PSI or something. Hey, that's funny.
EDIT: I think my calculations are completely off. Forget that PC size number

3000psi is way overkill - the world's largest air cannon, which launches pumpkins almost a mile from a 100 foot long barrel, only has a p/c pressure of a little over 2500psi at launch. something along the lines of 500psi would be appropriate. also, where do you plan to get a 5" diameter water balloon? logistics error! or even more difficult - WADDING for a 5" diameter water balloon! sorry dude, I just don't think that'll work.

dude, 5" isnt that big. Like the largest size that most water balloons can take. Or with a launcher like this, just to withstand the power, you might want to use helium party balloons anyways. Also for packing, just use a bunch of plastic grocery bags. Its my packing of choice.

Blue, I use styrofoam cups and my gun shoots twice as far as your gun. And thats at a low angle. Wait till I angle this thing all crazy like. Oh wait--they Don't make styrofoam cups that big. No--he could use a styrofoam bowl! Yeah!
Also if you're using the same type of valve that the aqualabs guy uses, in a store it's called an electric automatic anti-siphon sprinkler valve.

I highly doubt this will work. First of all, as Doom said, 5" PVC is going to be outrageously expensive. The air chamber is also going to be huge (and your going to need a ton of pumps to pressurize this thing), especially if you want to go up to all the way up to 500 pounds per square inch. This could also be extremely dangerous to you and the person you fire at, as "there is a very real chance you could have PVC shrapnel ripping through your skull," and a water balloon that weighs like 5 pounds smacking into someone... It would be cool if you could actually do it, but it doesn't sound very practical.
