Peristaltic pumps
I was reading up on Water guns on wikipedia (after browsing SS central of course)
When I got to the last article on Peristaltic pumps.
While common in squirt guns (replacing piston pumps)
Can this pump be used to pressurize APH or CPS guns?
Theoretically it would be easier/faster to pump and the continuous circular motion is less tiring
Thoughts?
btw i'm new, its my first post haha

Re: Peristaltic pumps
Welcome to SSC!
Peristalic pumps will likely be more tiring than our piston pumps. They actually are not common in squirt guns, but are occasionally used in electric-pumped guns. Their volume tends to be poor, so even if it was easier, it would be more tiring because of the long pump time. You are welcome to try to build one into a gun.

Re: Peristaltic pumps
I wouldn't say so because the pressure would stop the peristaltic pump from working but you could put a one way valve in. Also by the way the SS ThunderStorm has a pump in and I might try it if I have enough money !

I think the TS is a piston pump. The tarantula has a peristalic.

thanks for the replies!
i love the constructive feedback!
if i do use a peristaltic pump, do you think it would operate with just one check valve?
placed after the pump and before the PC

That might work, if they work the way I think they do.

Re: Peristaltic pumps
further research has led me to conclude that peristaltic pumps are not ideal for applications pertaining to CPS and ABH.
this is due to the nature of the materials required specifically the hose within the pump. it would need to be large and of very durable quality to withstand the constant flattening that these pumps require.
Also it would be quite large. like a dinner plate. or somebody's mother's ass. whichever is bigger.

Re: Peristaltic pumps
Good point. You could make a similar pump with a water wheel type thing that is sealed, and spins water in. This would be more durable, but would be a pain to seal up and would still be huge.

WRONG Here's a pic:atvan wrote:I think the TS is a piston pump. The tarantula has a peristalic.
And here's a pic of a peristalic pump:

Re: Peristaltic pumps
Oh OK. Yeah. The reson I thought the TS was a piston pump is that it burst, but in reality, it is a half a peristalic pump.
