Delays had set back the Sabre's leaving time - they had a new warrior to brief on the situation, and with an extra gun, more detailed tactics could be used. The attack had been set back to the next day.

Joanna had set off on her bike with some specialist kit to scout out the area herself, taking a radio and camera to allow some more in depth analysis on the laptop she had "borrowed" from one of the abandoned houses.

The Sabres sat, discussing the new warrior.

There was some doubt as to how trustworthy she was, but eventually, the consensus was that what she had said was truth, so she could be trusted for now - not as one of the Sabres, but as one of the mercenaries could.

Joanna sat surveying the castle from a distance. After an hour or two of assessing the various entrances of the castle, she seemed to be content with her survey.

Duxburian and the militia were forced to take an alternate route to avoid 3 - there were too many Tempest forces there. The Jeep's engine ground as it forced its way through a large rut. The militia were obviously on edge - time was running short.

Arriving back at the Sabre's compound, Jo uploaded the photos to the laptop, and sorted out a rough plan of the location. Tactics were laid down and the attack was carefully re-planned.

Suddenly, the revving of engines descended on the Sabres. Hands flew to weapons and cover positions were taken. Half a dozen Jeeps were waiting at the end of the street - for what they couldn't tell.

Duxburian swore. They were on time, but unfortunately, the ambush hadn't begun. They had lost the element of surprise. Putting the jeep back into gear, he signalled to the other drivers to pull up at the compound.

"Lower your weapons", called Toaster to Jo, who didn't recognise the Militia vehicles.

She nodded in reponse, and her finger was removed from the bullpup trigger.

Pulling up, Duxburian jumped from the Jeep.

"Toaster - we've recieved rumours of an ambush. We need to move now!"

"Get your stuff on the Armadillo, and make it quick", Toaster relayed to his team.

Suddenly from all angles, running footsteps could be heard.

"Too late" said Jo, "they're already here."

Hmm, I seem to be spending a bit more time on writing this than others - I haven't got a problem with this, but I'd rather have a bit less control over where it is going.

I've sort of tried to leave this so someone else can pick it up... but no-one has done so.

There were dozens of writers to begin with, but now there are people who have left a profile, but no other contribution.

I don't want to write another long section, so if no-one else posts, then I'll have to accept this topic is dead.

OOC: Do you want to just end this soon so the story can finally be archived and done with? If you post about the results of the Tempest attack, I'll think about a good way to end this RP, so as to set up events for a new RP at some livelier future day.

Ok, my previous response seemed unsuitable for the task, so I'm replacing it.

The footsteps were getting closer.

"I think they're here for the Armadillo - they need it to finish their clones." said Duxburian, " Ideally we need to get it out"

"Not even possible" responded Toaster, "There are too many of them - just listen"

The footfalls were considerably loud - speech was hard to hear over them. It was impossible to do anything but agree.

"I had no idea there were this many Tempest on the Island", said Jo, "They must have stripped locations to skeleton staff"

The militia were highly efficent at setting up defences - most available cover had been moved - if possible - to new locations. They were covering most directions of attack, and could deal with
others.

"It's no good the Armadillo remaining inside - we might as well use it's weapons", Toaster decided, calling necessary crew to him as he moved in to bring it out.

With ground heaving impacts, water balloon mortar fire streaked from the sky, defeating much of the defenses they had setup.

"Take Cover!" someone shouted, and much of the defending forces withdrew to safer locations.

It was at this point that Tempest forces came into view - what militia wbls still had line of sight opened up, dropping some of the front line.

"We can't fight under this barrage!" shouted Duxburian as the mortars continued to hit home.

The Tempest were moving fast, and just before they reached the fence surrounding the warehouse, a rain of long range water dropped on them from Homemades and K-modded soakers.

"Jesus - they'll be through any second", exclaimed one militia.

The warehouse doors opened, but instead of the Armadillo, a militia came out, (protected by the rain guard over the door) holding the fire hose from the building. When he opened up, the intensity of the power caused the Tempest to fall back.

"That was too easy" said Jo, "I think they're going to shut off the water to this building - fill what containers you can."

Shouldn't this be under "Water fight stories?" I'm getting a little sick of it anyway, and I've only gotten half way--it's too dramatic and unrealistic.

I'm thinking about making a more realistic one that doesn't use tanks, mortars, etc. I may have to exercise a bit more control to keep it realistic and to keep the plot alive and short.

People don't tend to like realistic RPs as much as this style of stuff. Some people like the realism, but RPs where wbls knock down walls and APHs killing on contact seem to do better.

I admit that the story is about as likely as Ben suddenly saying - "Hey, I made a super soaker flamethrower - you should too!" (Dramatisation - may not have happend), but it needs a bit of zest to make it more than just a fictional water war.

Oh, I would definitely go for the gusto if I ever help coordinate an RP, but within limits...for example, you could claim that you have an impressive armory, but that's just about it. The RP would probably have go-karts, very basic fortification, and a complete town with civilians, too. While it won't just be testing grounds for new tactics--it will be where we might want hardcore water wars to go (beyond small clubs here and there).

You can go to any gaming site if you really want fantastical RPs, but they are usually called fanfics and they are often run by only one person.

I think my preferred variety of RP would be:
- road-legal vehicles (go-karts, quad bikes, maybe motorbikes and cars [no highly tuned vehicles])
- a large area to fight over,
- civillians in the towns,
- Weapons having good ranges and power (wbls damaging property, ranges several times the normal and degrees of hit lethality sounds good to me)
- Less in the way of military kit (no tanks, or paratroop drops)
- Some fantastical ability (some abseiling down cliffs while firing one-handed - that kind of thing.)

The kind of stuff that you might see in a 1HK war where everyone was dedicated to it (prepared to use their cars, etc.), just with deaths/injuries instead of outs (I'm not asking that if you get hit, you're dead - maybe a mild injury), and more range and power on the weapons.

I'm sure everyone could get into that, both the people who want realism and those that want some fantasy.

Perhaps this one should be drawn to a close, and we should start a new one for the summer and the projected activity - I'm prepared to govern the RP - I'll also help draw it to a close when it starts to lose interest.

Yes, you have a good compromise there...I was preparing myself for another fantastical version. I might go with this if you start one, but if I ever do, it'll be my version.

I'd like to see some fanastical ability, but I'm not going for every user doing it all the time.

You are perfectly welcome to limit yourself as you wish. However, I would say anything much more restrictive than my list would discourage many people from an RP - it needs to have something a bit more than a imaginary water war - something like an evil (EEEVILLLL) enemy - and some kind of serious elimation.

However, limiting yourself too much will reduce the part your character can play in the RP - thus also limiting the RP itself.

I would suggest that the following is used as rule of thumb:

Weapons relative to one another should be proportionally scaled in range and impact (not output). (i.e. If weapon A shoots 10 times further in the RP, so does weapon B)

I'm currently formulating a beginning of a story line for RP III - I will bring it out in a few days. I'm still deciding if the Tempest are to be included in that. If I choose that they will not be, then I'll state this somewhere.

As no-one else is posting for this RP:

As Jo had predicted, the water was shut off. However, they had filled enough containers to survive for a while.

It seemed that they were waiting for something. They weren't attacking, except for the incessant rain of mortar balloons (wonderful pun).

But then, those slowed to the odd one, then stopped.

They weren't attacking - so what were they doing?

*******

Back in the Fortress on the hill, some interesting events were happening.

A fair few militia had been captured over time sometime ago, but had just succeeded in breaking from their cells, letting some others out as they went.

Carrying what the impressive armouries had provided, they advanced into the main control room.

In a brief instant, the Tempest at the control panels were down.

Quickly reading the panels, one of them caught up very fast with what was happening.

The Tempest forces were under the effective control of the Militia.

The effect wouldn't last long - some one would realise - so they had to gain an advantage as quickly as possible.

The most senior militia there shouted some orders:

"Pull back the forces in 4 - relieve the friendly forces there. Report a mass attack somewhere else that requires immedate attention - No. Direct them at the fort in 2...
You, order the emergency shutdown of the main manufacturing plant... and have the lead supervisor report here ASAP.
Now, where's the radio?..."

In the corner, one of the militia shouted orders down a radio, trying to sound offical.

"Commander. Order a retreat of all friendly forces from 4. The forces there are insignificant. We must attack the militia fort in 2. We have reliable reports that it is undermanned."

*****

Back at 4, the militia were formulating ideas.

"Perhaps we should break through their lines now - with the Armadillo."

A radio came to life.

"Yo - anyone there I could get along with? Looking for a militia type."

Picking up the radio, Toaster answered:

"Perhaps you'd care to explain the situation?"

"Well, you see - we have momentary control of the Tempest forces. We've directed them at the fort in 2, but I imagine you lot would do well to attack them from the rear."

Perhaps someone would care to pick it up from here?

Ok, I have the plans for RP III almost finished, so I'll reveal them very soon (maybe tommorrow).

It's going to be a rolling start - i.e. you post your profile and then go, without waiting for everyone to join. People won't be meeting up for a few posts, so this should be fine.

Well, I'm willing to join, as long as there isn't too much extravagance...

Details are very important before starting an RP, and you might want to post the details in that thread, not this one. Rules, the map, teams, equipment, etc. are all important!

EDIT: Are you going to start this under "Water fight stories," or just under "Water fights?"

Then we better end RP II:

The Helicopters that Duxburian had secretly called for had finally arrived. All of the Militia, Sabres, etc. jumped in and they took off for a new land. One of the Militia who had flown over in the chopper handed Duxburian a Hydrogen Bomb, which Duxburian promptly hurled out the window when they had started moving at a good speed. The island literally vanished behind them, as they flew off towards the setting sun.

THE END.

Yay! Now we might actually have time to do better things, like building homemades, fighting, etc.! Thanks, Duxburian.

I was planning on being a bit more subtle than destroying the entire island.

Perhaps:

The Tempest commanders quickly realised that the orders given were fake. However, the militia had been cunning. Over the months, they had sent troops aboard the Tempest fleet, who had laid carefully laid explosives.

Withdrawing the barrier from the harbour, the militia had several boats escape. With no command structure, the fleet was compelled to follow them.

As the ships cleared the harbour, the militia on the boats waited for the time to send the detonation signal.

The fleet commander smiled - he was going to recieve honours for this - he had shown initiative and had strengthened the hold on the Island by preventing the escape of the enemy.

It was inevitable that at the instant that he gave the command to "blow them out of the water", the militia triggered the bombs planted in every ship.

With their fleet slowly sinking, the Tempest forces on the Island were trapped - for however long it took them to build new craft - and the militia in the Tempest control tower had conviently destroyed the only long range transmitted on the island.

It was by no means a perfect conclusion, but it had been mostly luck.

As the Militia left for the Mainland in the helicopters, they knew that they had bought some time.

It was the end - for now.

That sounds a bit more plausible and doesn't constrict future RPs - I'm writing the intro for RP III based on this ending, rather than the H-bomb ending.

@ silentguy: subforums tend to be rather ignored in general - I think I'll keep this in "water fights"

EDIT: Wasn't thinking - meant mainland, not south Island.
