Read this article:

http://www.sscentral.net/tech/oys.php

It mentions getting better screwdrivers or drilling out the screws.

I'm not sure if I said this in the article, but push down on the screwdriver while turning really hard. Sometimes that gives you the grip needed. Sometimes that'll just make it worse, which is ok because you'll probably be drilling out half the screws anyway.

Tride it. I looked at the articles too. The screws have rusted to a point where the areas where the screw diriver is supose to go has completely disapeared.

You could try getting a small drill bit and drilling the rust out, once you have a space that the screwdriver will grip, then do what Doom said.

if the hole where the screwdriver grips is square now, try using an allen wrench, or a square screw driver. square ones are rare but the work on lots of stuff. -_-

From what I understand it kind of sounds as if you won't be able to get it open. Your saying theres so much rust build-up you can't get to the screw? You could possibly sXPBackfire-esquee it out if that what your saying.

I took vice-grip pliers and a screwdriver and by locking the pliers on the screwdriver, twisted the screw out.

No, the rust has made the area where you put the screws disapeared. The top is now flat like a nail.

Drilling them out is probably the only option. When you replace them, most hardware stores carry stainless screws that will never rust.

That is if you can get them out again. You actually can if you try hard enough, I've got 4 or 5 out of my 2700 that I had to drill. What I did was find the ones where there was a tinyI do recommend replacing screws too. I don't know what kind they will be because that probably changes from soaker to soaker. I would recommend bringing one to the store to compare.

Canadiens are smart they use square heads. My dad re-did a floor up there, an thats a lot of screws stripped like two of them. These were 40 years old two.

Alright i know this topic has most likley been dead for some time, but i would like to know what size drill bit you should use to remove the screws. I know it varies form rifle to rifle but iam not sure on if iam supposed to destroy the threads the screws fit into and buy a slightly larger screw -or- use a bit small enough to get the screw out but not damage the threads so you can use the same size screw the next time around.

P.S. iam trying to remove the rusted screws on a Super Charger 600 to replace/mod a broken pump or check valve.

I use one of these to remove stripped screws provided I can get into the screw hole with it. Otherwise, I just drill off the screw head with a drill bit slightly larger than the diameter of the screw threads.

Those square head screws are called Robinson in Canada. They're great if you use a drill or power screw driver to drive them. They don't strip like Philips (plus) or wobble all over the place like slot heads (minus).
