I've never used skype, and am fine with IRC.

What's so confusing? All you do is download a client, select the server and type /join #soakertalk. I've never done a multi-person Skype chat before, but IRC channels are always on...there's no off.

IRC actually doesn't feel dated in any way. Maybe it's the client? Anyway, the only difference I've noticed (with limited experience in general) is that you don't register for a proprietary account, and getting a log is more difficult than it should be.

If there are no users, then the channel closes. Of course that kind of makes sense really. ChanServ will op NYwriter94 automatically, so no worries about someone stealing ops.

I guess doing stuff by typing commands, like /nick, /join, and so on, is old-fashioned. But once one knows the commands, it's very effective. Besides, a good graphical client ought to have menu entries.

I'll be working much less in the coming weeks so I'll pop in the chat more often. If I forget, please remind me with a PM or email. Thanks.

How's the chat been for the last two weeks? I haven't been around for a while. Of course, I may be too busy now to do anything, but I'm just enquiring.

I haven't joined any of them. I'd say that chats should be organized at least 12 hours in advance since I missed 2 of them when I got IRC to work. (that is, gamesurge's IRC app, I'm not sure how to get other ones to work and I'm sure as heck not paying for one)

if you use firefox, then i suggest chatzilla addon. its pretty easy to use, just read the FAQ on how to add an outside server. i think its something like /attach [name of server] then /connect #soakertalk

I thought choosing the server was by /server ?

it probably depends on whatever client is being used. I vaguely remember having to type in /attach irc.gamesurge.net
then in that chat box, /connect #soakertalk

Why's it been made invite only? How're any chats going to happen if people can't join the channel!

I did try chatzilla (which I still have), and gamesurge denied the connection for some reason. However, I did get to #soakerchat by using their IRC/chat client in the site itself. There was also an idler there and no discussion took place.
