I've heard reports that it will if twisted excessively or punctured beforehand, but I can't confirm either of these, and they don't sound like the sort of things that would get consistant results.

You could also shoot a weak balloon with your water gun, pull back on a string, or hit the balloon with something else. However, like Big Boss said, it will always produce inconsistent results--and just throwing them the standard way is much easier and more effective.

There is a mix you can add to the balloon that will let water bombs explode in mid air.

However, it has a very short "fuse" and must be made at the time of launch. - I have experiemented with ways of getting the mix sorted for rapid mix but it needs more work.

Actually all you have to do is twist the middle of the balloon 20-30 times. It may explode early but it usually works for me.

ya... like you could actually hit a water balloon in mid air.... wow that would be the day.

wouldn't you feel kind of stupid in the middle of a water fight pulling out your bb gun to attempt to hit a water balloon in mid air? What the heck?

"hey buddy this is a water fight"

"sorry im trying to detonate water balloons in mid air... could you hold still for a second?"
