Yeah, some of you guys with more experience with water rockets could do this much better than I have. This is the first water rocket-type-thing I've ever messed around with, so it's not as good as it could be. Any help you can give would be great.

I performed some more tests now with a weighted bottle nose. Range was generally increased from before.

Next stage - work out optimum bottle fill.

I can tell you the optimum bottle fill. It will be between 40% and 45% of your bottle's volume. Trust me, I know this stuff from Science Olympiad.

After I fixed a pump problem, I have it back up and running. A couple things I've noticed from a couple tests...

Bigger bottles seem to work much better. I'm assuming this is because it can hold more water, giving it more thrust without adding too much weight.

I figured shooting it at a 45 degree angle would shoot great, however...when it shoots at an angle, all the water doesn't escape as fast as it normally would, weighing the bottle down and making it fall faster. Shooting it straight up isn't so awful though, considering I'm not shooting it at stuff anyways.

So I'm gonna try out some more bottle sizes and see how they go.

This post marks my return to the ssc forums (I forgot my password and e-mail password as well). I am vaporizer28.

I posted something like this a while back, but I didn't explain it well, and other members took it as launching a water bottle to hit somebody.

launching a bottle of water is to carpet-bomb your target with water, right?

Actually, I don't think this is intended to be used in battle. I don't want to be hit by the hardness of a water bottle + the momentum of the water within, and it won't be that great for plain soakage. An interesting concept, but not for battle use.

This is one of those novelties, like ancient water guns (kind of like the one ben is reproducing) It's just for fun.
