Default The word filter should be changed...

The word filter should be changed in one respect. Those who are familiar with the word filter knows that “p-p-l” is converted to “idiots”. Ordinarily, I don’t have a problem with this. But what if you want to say “a-p-p-l-e”, “s-u-p-p-l-y”, or some other word with “p-p-l” in it? As you can see, “a-p-p-l-e” gets converted to “aidiotse” and “s-u-p-p-l-y” gets converted to “suidiotsy”.

Really nice and confusing, in my opinion.

I'll add spaces on each side which should fix this problem.

Most if not all of my word filters are humorous. Just see what happens when you write d-ont. I dont think you should write this. What about (s-p?). Hello (sp?).

I agree that a lot of them are funny, but you're going to drive a lot of potentially good new people away.

If I see a massive exodus of people from our forums, yes I will remove them or change them to less humorous replacements. The main idea is to have some fun while promoting better writing. I can filter, but I would rather not.

These ideas came from the Aquatica Ikonboard. They had something similar and they still do at the iSoaker.com forums. Certain words became XPBackfire or BrokenMXL, which became very funny when someone went on a wild rant!

Oh, so is that why in the old APH threads you call your homemade XPBackfiresque?

Maybe when Ben decided to censor expletives, all expletives were deleted and replaced with other words, even in the old articles and threads?

What was the original word? That has been confusing me for a while

I don't think the word filter needs to be changed, just slightly altered, as Ben did with ppl .

The original word is... well, I can't tell you. It'll get censored. All I can tell you is that it's a certain little word beginning with "S".

EDIT: Ben, I've noticed something with the new filter. When you type "dont", you'll notice that "apostrophe" has two p's. It's supposed to be "apostrophe", not "appostrophe". Since you're so big on spelling, just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks for reporting the spelling error! I also checked won't, can't, didn't and apostrophe was only misspelled in won't.

And don't say "Since you're big on spelling". No, I am big on understandability. I never yelled at someone for one word, though I have notified them if they constantly were spelling it wrong.

I meant "big on spelling" in a good way. You and I are both big on spelling, and therefore, we are both easy to understand.
