I thought that this: √ is the square root symbol?

Thinking about it , err... if 5% goes 8 feet further, then 100% , pure, glycerine would go 160 feet further technically...

The distance will almost certainly not be linear.

I know, that's what I said after that...

Anyway... Leaving the square root symbol behind...

Again, are there any safer additives? This is fine for messing around with, but it's too dangerous really. Anyone got any ideas?

[at]everybody-If you try this out then make sure you drain out your gun with water or else it might get clogged (glycerin=very thick).
BTY, this is my 100th post!

Doom: In your article, you said that by using additives, you could decrease the density of the water. Wouldn't it be better to increase the density? Wouldn't that make it lighter and make it stay together better? Correct me if I'm wrong, this is just one of those crazy ideas I dreamed up at night one time.

Uhh, decreasing the density will make it lighter, unless I was completely off in that. I never heard of more density equaling less weight.

Increasing density increases weight because the particles are more tightly packed, making a denser stream heavier, but it would not be as affected by wind or break up as fast.

This article I posted a while ago but haven't release officially. Believe me, I know more about soaker tech than 99% of everyone.
If you wanna get technical :P

Viscosity is the resistance to flow under applied force (thanks u physics, Hey, that's funny., I hated that course). Glycerin is thick if I remember correctly, but has a low coefficient of friction. When mixed with the water, it acts much like oil on bearings does. It coats the water and innards of the gun allowing the water to glide past much easier and it should actually increase stream lamination, which all add up to a better shot.

You want the stream to flow as smoothly as possible, and to try and prevent it from going tubulent. The glycerin coating should smooth over any imperfections in the plastic, the trigger, etc. Imperfections create drag and cause the water to swirl behind them (turbulence) slowing the whole thing down.

Also (Doom did say this before) it makes the water stay together better instead of breaking apart into mist while in the air. If you've ever shot a pressure washer into the air you'l know what im talking about. The water turns into mist and shoots a far shorter disctance than you might have thought.

Off topic, but special nozzles can also prevent water from breaking up. They are very expensive though.

I've only seen one once, really odd design, but it could spray a pulsing stream, that would stay as a PERFECT line of water through the air and did not become white (didn't get air in it) and it travelled MUCH farther than a normal spray, probably 1.5x the distance under the same conditions. They hit much harder too, think of rain, or 2 gallons of water dropped on your head (it keeps air out of the water stream, meaning more density hitting you). I want one of em'...

--Blake

EDIT: Doom, im part of that 1%! :P Just joking, you probably know more or were equal.

Well whatever, you just taught me something though. h34r: I'd like to know some more about these special nozzles, what else do you know?

Not much about the nozzles in general... it was a really odd looking design, and it was a few years ago. I have yet to find a place where they sell nozzles that keep the stream together... thats why I sorta made the guess that they are expensive

Usually when something is hard to find that thing is expensive, and vise versa.

SORRY ABOUT OLD TOPIC BUMP, but I'm bored. And I have something to add. And more people should read this topic.

Anyway, Xray, aren't the nozzles on the Max-D 6000 that sorta range-increase type design?

Hey you guys my grandpa makes wine, and he uses glycern for a sweetner in his wine and said it was fine to eat but it was thick like honey. but you guys might be talking about something different.
