talk about anime, favorite anime or manga, where to get free episodes :) , maybe a review or something.

I'm watching Full Metal Alchemist right now. Its set in a world where alchemy is used. Alchemy is manipulating and transforming something into something else of equivalent value. example, 1kg of lead is transformed into 1kg of gold.

The storyline is about two brothers who learn alchemy. Their mother dies and they try to use alchemy to revive her. They get the equivalent costs for the body right, and in theory it should work, but alas it doesn't, and the older brother loses an arm and a leg, and the younger brother loses his body. The older brother fuses his brother's soul into a suit of armor, and they set out to look for the philosopher's stone to get back their bodies.

Lots of action, drama, horror, and comedy thrown in even at somber times.

Too bad its licensed now by funimation, so no more japanese subtitled episodes :( but cartoon network is going to show it in october, I hope its in adult swim so they can keep the blood in. Although it probably won't happen, I hope they subtitle it instead of XPBackfire-esquepily dubbing it! FRIENDS Don't LET FRIENDS WATCH DUBS!

you can see the trailer here

wow I think this was the longest post I ever made! kudos to me! :D

anyone ever hear of megatokyo? it's an online anime comic I've heard of it a while ago, but never really got to reading it. Today I spent a good 2+ hrs reading the entire thing of over two years of work Hey, that's funny.. its very funny. a lot of comedy, but if you arent familiar with anime, you won't know some of the comic. its progressing into more of a romance now.
here's the link
the best part is that the creators live in San Jose! the same city as me! They even came to Fanime 2004. Yup.

I am a fan of anime and manga. Nothing in particular, basically just random stuff that is cheap at the book store. The Full metal Alchemist thing looks really good. Youg ot me hooked! Do they have a manga version of it?

ChaosKnight, don't double post. It's in the Board Guidelines. I'm going to edt your other post into your original one.

The only anime stuff I watch on more of a dialy basis is Dragonball and Dragonball Z. I watch it when I don't have homework, so it's not everyday. I also used to watch Pokemon back in the day. The only anime movie I've seen was Spirited Away, which I thought was really creative and I liked it a lot.

edit: Didn't realize it was a bump. Those are ok, just be sure next time to say bump or something. ;)

sorry, I Don't think they have a manga version of full metal alchemist, anime only for now.
although, you should check out the ragnarok manga, it has a lot of action. I have so far 10 volumes of it Hey, that's funny.. in one interview with the creator, he said that by the time the series is complete, there will be 400-500 volumes, hes still in his early 20s so I think it will be possible. here's a link

and, if your parents will let you, pick up a volume of battle royale. it's a very good storyline, in japan, the government randomly chooses a high school class. that class is forcibly transported to an island. random weapons are given to each student (and by random I mean RANDOM Hey, that's funny. some guy got a fork, and another guy got a boomerang while someone else got an UZI&#33 ;) With those weapons, they are set free into the island to kill each other. they have to kill each other until one is left. if no one is killed within 24 hours, the collars on their neck explode. so the question remains, can you trust anyone? will you kill your friends to live? if you kill off everyone you hate first, you have to kill your loved ones.
However, it is rated 17+ because it is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AND GORY. some guy refuses to fight in the beginning and gets half his face blown off by the sadistic teacher, and there is a girl who seduces the boys and kills them. but it is very interesting. buy it if you can

I have seen some extremely gory anime in kill bill vol. 1 (haven't seen vol.2 yet). what is the difference between anime and manga? all I know is that japanese animation is anime and that I have seen some strange super nintendo games that were like manga porn or something like that.

anime is basically tv animation, and manga are graphic novels. sometimes there are subtle differences between the anime and manga such as drawing styles, etc. however, there are some exceptions, the vision of escaflowne anime and manga are pretty different. the characters look much different. in the manga version, hitomi has long hair and bigger breasts. the anime was more for the younger audiences I think. more action, less romance in the anime. vice versa in the manga.

hi it's me again, with my sporadic bumping and updates.

I just bought vol 1 of hikaru no go. its pretty funny, wait, make that very funny! for those who Don't know, go is a board game played in japan (and china too?). anyways, hikaru finds an old go board in his attic. a spirit of a dead go instructor from the go board inhabits his body. they share the consciousness. Sai, the ghost, wants hikaru to play go, but hikaru refuses because go is boring. but he is forced to, because he can't stomach the hundreds of years of sadness of the ghost (literally, he throws up everywhere XD). it is sort of like yugioh, except the setting of the book is much lighter and more realistic (if you discount the ghosts), there is no cliche "I have to save the world" plot. overall, I give it a 9/10, funny, but could use just a tad more conflict.

stay tuned for the next update..........

I have a friend who's hooked on inu-yasha, she's freaking obsessed!

You can pretty much ignore the times on that, I rarely ever have Xfire on when I play. I should, though.

Yeah. That show has started some kind of cult in my school.

Personally I like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. Both are considered 2 of the best animes ever.

haha yea, trigun is action/comedy, and cowboy bebop is action/drama. you should watch the actual japanese voice acting though, it fits the characters personalities much better.

Yeah. I have the DVD series of cowboy bebop and trigun. The voices are pretty neet, but I Don't like to read subtitals.

Anime in short, is for "Japanese Animation", or just for simplcities sake, Japanese Cartoons with voice-overs translated into english. There are tons of animes out there, and some of the best known animes are Gundam Series, Dragonball Series... Inuyasha (seen a lot of it, good anime) and my personal favorite, FLCL.

Manga is a term we use, it is short for "A Japanese Comic", also translated into english. Reading Manga is not that hard at all, and some of the best manga series have the ebst artwork I have ever seen. Your read from right to left, top to bottom. They did this to give you a more authentic Manga reading experience, not to mention the fact that flipping the art caused some major problems. For example. a shirt could read "MAY!" originally, and flipped could appear as "YAM!".

Both Anime and Manga I am a huge fan of. Americans and Japanese people have different views on whats acceptable for children to watch. In America little kids could be watching Barney The Purple Dinosaur, while In Japan they are watching their cartoons, possibly with minor/major blood and/or gore. Since the cultures are so different, Anime and Manga's suitable audience int he States is 14, 15 and up. Anime and Manga can cover touchy subjects, such as blood, violence, and/or tobacco or alcohol usage. In short, it is NOT meant for kids in America! At my school, anime and manga is not very much liked, actually around my area Stubborn, arrogant rascists oppose anything from a different country othetr than ths US. Its very sad, they have no idea what they are missing. However there are a few liek myself, and we even started a Anime Club in our high school. When its mentioned int he TV Broadcasted announcements, everyone gets roundy, and even the announcers laugh because they think its so stupid. Let them get hooked on drugs and failed romance,w hile good, honest peopel enjoy something really awesome.

Wow! Im like the only person around here that likes Fooly cooly. Everyone I know whos seen it says its too confusing. I understand it perfectly... well after I watched it 7 times around. Its the best looking one I've seen in a while. And its really funny! :Hey, that's funny.:

And we have an Anime club too. I think they watched Cowboy Bebop the movie the last day of school. Most of the people in our anime club are girls for some odd reason. I would of figured more guys are into anime kind of stuff.

I think Anime is totally awesome. In my humble opinion, if your going for the robot anime stuff. Robotech is handsdown the best. Then old school transformers. Its too bad they Don't make 'em like they used too
If your looking for comedy then All purpose cultural cat girl Nuku Nuku (the tv series universe not the other nuku nuku universes) is the best, then I'd say that azumanga daio is the second funniest. Its based on a japanese comic strip. I highly reccommend both of these.
But If your looking for all around good stuff you can never beat anything directed by hiao myazaki. All of his films are amazing. Spirited away, kiki's delivery service, princess mononoke(my least favorite you Don't have to watch this), are all great. But his best by far is My neighbor totorro.

I love princess mononoke. Especially that demonic pig, his arm, and the loss of limbs. Kill Bill is also great. It has a short anime scene, and good anime style violence. Gotta love blood.
Sorry to change the subject, but have you guys seen starship troopers? one of the best movies ever! Great effects, blood gore effects, and you gotta love the XPBackfire-esquety dialouge. the seconed one ruined it. It was a fudgeing soap opera with aliens!
