Forum in need of better Anti-bot system.

Post by strato_2r5 » Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:26 am

In the past few months or so, we've had a number of bots bypass our security. Ben or cantab, SSC needs a new anti-bot system.
Sorry if I'm not active much, busy on another forum and another project non-soaker related.

Have you seen either of them recently? They both seem to be busy. There are other admins though. We could do what nerfhaven did, and have new people have limited posting rights. After a week or two, they would be upgraded to standard member.

Actually, SSC's system is pretty top notch. Very, very few ever get in. This most recent one could easily have been a real person. Limited posting rights won't do anything, since spambots and live spammers only tend to post 1-5 times.

The length of posts could be limited, or all caps and long titles.

I have cleaned up the latest few spam threads.

The forum software we use is rather old, but we've fared rather well against spammers.

When a spammer does get through, just send a moderator or admin a PM with a link to the thread.

There is no need to implement a NerfHaven style system here. We don't see as many people interested in the hobby as we used to and I don't want to add any barriers to the entry of the folks we do attract.

That makes sense. Nice to see you back around. You seem very busy lately.
