Best stock watergun

Post by solar00 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 10:32 pm

Now that I almost have all the guns I want I like to compare them against each other and give my opinion on them.

MaxD3000: everything about the one is too small especially the grip, holding it is unconfortable I never use this one.

CPS2100: Light and still powerful enough so this one is not too bad (and even great for its size)
CPS2000: Nice and powerful stream but shot time is way to short and no selectable nozzles, always use this together with CPS2500. so the CPS2000 is certainly not the best gun.
CPS2500: Powerful stream and the 3 choices of nozzles make it very usefull, this is absolutely one of my favorites.
CPS3000: Another of my favorites, very light since the weight is on the back, powerful and a good watersupply I think this one is the best gun (along with the CPS3200), but the backpack could have been a little bigger.
CPS4100: Powerful but the nozzle sizes are just too small and I think its just to light , the trigger needed to be repaired after using it 3 times and I bought it new in the box from a leftover stock. not recommended , certainly not second hand (If you need this blaster go for the Monster)
MonsterX: Nice and balanced, good size, weight and choice of nozzles, (not so powerful as the other ones but still fair enough) pressure chamber is just too small. (when i use this I have CPS2500 as backup)
MonsterXL: Very durable and it has the most intimidating look , pressure chamber volume is also excellent, but its power is quite dissapointing for its size.
It weight makes you run out of energy very quick and makes its difficult to use it together with another gun. It;s a must have but not that useful in a serious battle.
Currently owned: Max-D 3000, CPS2100, CPS4100, 2x CPS2500, 2x MonsterXL, Monster X, CPS2000 mkII, CPS3000

CPS1000. Perfect balance of power and range with weight and capacity. Suits pretty much anyone in any role as a primary weapon.

The 2500's my favorite. Performs better than medium k-modded guns with a larger PC. Ideally, I'd want the CPS 2000 MK I w/ a smaller nozzle. Such large nozzles require 3-4 pumps for 1 tap shot, which is too difficult for me to use.

The 3000 and 3200 already seem to have large backpacks. The solar shower I use for my CPH is huge and I filled it up too much one time. It ended up being pretty difficult for me to carry.

The 4100 is infamous because of the 2004 re-release version, whose trigger has been deliberately designed to break after little use. Hasbro has a history of marketing blasters in this manner and is a real pain. But even so, the 4100 feels underpowered for it's size, and could be better. I've had to repair one 4100 with the trigger body piece missing as well as the spring. The repair wasn't perfect but it works. I would recommend taking out the fan nozzle and completely defacing it so that only the basic blast is left, giving it a good riot blast. Fan nozzles are completely useless anyway.

solar00, it's interesting that you don't have a CPS 1500/1700. That seems to come up fairly frequently on "best water gun" lists because it's a good balance between portability and performance.

Of the CPS line, I've only handled the CPS 4100, but I may have fuzzy recollections of seeing a CPS 1000. But based on what I've read, I'd probably go with the CPS 1700 or the CPS 2500.

CPS 2000 is difficult for anyone to use in an actual fight. I don't personally like it as a weapon, it's just good for the wow factor. And if you define "best" as "most powerful" then, unfortunately, it wins.

Well thats exactly why I specified with a smaller nozzle. A pump to tap shot ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 is fairly reasonable, but guns like the 12k and 10k are so easy to use because their ratios are only between 1:1 and 2:1 and have higher shot times. However, a 2000 with a smaller nozzle would still be easy enough to shoot and to carry around, despite the high power requiring more pumping.

I have to say there are three "Best stock waterguns".

Light:

CPS 1000

Light, small, the size of an XP 110, yet still extremely powerful with a 6x stream. 40 - 45 ft. ranges, and decent shot time for a small CPS. Amazing.

Medium:

CPS 1500/1700

Best "all-around". Two strong nozzles, 45 - 50 ft. of range. Still pretty light. 10x for extreme drenching.

Heavy:

CPS 2500

The second most powerful soaker ever. Hits 45 - 50 ft. ranges, 20x can make someone beg for surrender/death. Think of it as a CPS 2000 with multiple settings and slightly less range.

Any watergun is only as good as its user. While some are better overall than others a lot of times it all boils down to what fits the individual user.
For me this is the CPS 2000 mk1 hands down. I love this gun and have scored many hits with it. I am currently repairing a CPS 2500 and look to have it fixed by our big war this weekend. While I have fought against several I have never used one before. As for the CPS 1000 I think it's a great gun but not nearly as great as people seem to think. If you have the right mk of the CPS 1200 - not sure which one - its range and power are equal to the 1000 and it has more capacity and a nicer feeling pistol grip and handle. If you reinforce the trigger the CPS 4100 is a very good blaster to have. It has always performed well in battle for my troops and I, but then again I don't ever remember anyone having it go up against any other large CPS guns so I am not sure how it compares.

This weekend I am hosting a Water War on campus here. The first 2 battles will be team 1hk, the next will be every man for himself 1hk, and then finally a soakfest. I have several new (to me) guns that will see use in this war, guns that have never been used in a war before so I look forward to seeing how they perform. Additionally, I have fixed up some of my old guns so I am interested in seeing how they perform comparatively. I will be using my CPS 2000 mk1.

Guns that will be used in the war:
Monster XL
Monster X
CPS 2500
CPS 2000 mk1
CPS 1500
CPS 2100
CPS Arctic Blast
Max D Liquidator
XP 150
XP 310
XP 105
XP 70
XP 20 x4
SS 100 mk2 x2
SS 50 20th Anniversary

If I can fix 2 CPS 4100s, an Aquapack Devastator, a Secret Strike, and a Flash Flood those will be used also. For 1v1 gun comparisons see:
CPS 2000 mk1 vs Monster XL
CPS Arctic Blast vs XP 150
PS: How do you modify a Super Soaker Max Infusion backpack to use with any watergun? Do you just cut off the orange piece on the end?

Sounds like that'll be an epic water war. Will there be any pictures? Anyway, have fun.

Sounds like what JLspacemarine said here. You'd have to be creative in re-attaching the hose, though...if you have a spare cap for the reservoir lying around, then cutting a large hole should work.

.
I've never seen the 1500/1700 on one of the local auction websites (where I found some of the other guns)
Only my first MonsterXL was from an Ebay seller in the US.(very high shipping costs)
But when a 1500 or 1700 pops up on the local site I will buy it to add it to my collection.

I have used, monster XL, cps 2500, and cps 1000 for stock water guns (besides some of today's soakers). And I would say that the 1000 is the best. Now I have never held a 1500/1700 for comparison, but many say one of those or the 1000, is the best.

Just curious, what makes you choose the CPS 1000 over the CPS 2500? Compact size? Shot time?

I've owned, used, or fought against every major, practical stock water gun [pre-2008] except the Monster [2001], Splashzooka, Power Pak, CPS 1700, SS 300, Liquidator, 3XA, and certain older pistols. I've also seen most marks of most guns, exceptions include the fake 1000 that's actually good, 2500 mk1, and the unique 2700 mk3.

For the "best" stock guns, I'd put these up there in the top 5:

CPS 2500
CPS 2000 either mark
CPS 1500
CPS 1200 mk 1 or 3
CPS 3000

The 2500, 2000, and 1500 are pretty equal. Those are definitely the top tier. 2500 vs 1500 is dead even, 2500 vs 2000 is dead even, 2000 vs 1500 the 2000 has a bit more muscle. 1500 is better in a hit-based game, 2000 is better in a soakfest, 2500 could go either way. That's why I have the 2500 over the others, it is more versatile. Granted, I know how to wield a 2K effectively in a hit-based game, but I prefer to have a skirmishing nozzle [5x] and more tap shot capacity. Giving up the range edge of the 2K is ok, since most kills are made at close or mid-ranges with level shots, not long ranges with angled shots. I'd take either 2K mark for a reason: Mk1 has more power, but the mk2 is less likely to have its bladder rip, especially as those guns age.

After those, the better marks of the 1200 beat the 1000 and 2100, notably in field life. 1200s and XP 310s often need the least refilling of any non-backpack soaker. They just battle on forever. The 3000 is up there because it's awesome to have in a soakfest [and will get you pretty far in a hit-based fight too]. Range is meh, but capacity is so good. 3200 is the same power-wise but I prefer a soft backpack to a hard one, as you can fight better in thick places.

The 2000 mk II is basically the same as the 2500 in terms of power. For that reason, the 2500 is preferable since it's easier on the firing. A 2000 mk I, I'd imagine, would take at least 4 pumps per tap shot, which is very difficult to maintain and for that reason, I prefer the 2500 at 2-3 pumps per tap shoot. From that, I'd have to say that the 2500 is the best of all. It can easily surpass modded 1000's, 1200's, 2100's, you name it, the 2500 has more capacity and is more powerful while still being easy to carry.

Eh, I definitely notice a difference in power with my mk2's vs 2500s. The riot blast on the one with custom nozzles doesn't get comparable range to a 2K...then again I don't have a nozzle that is exactly the same size. The 2500 20x stream feels underpowered though - it only goes like 30-35ft. If they have the same power, and 2K output is around 28x, then the 2500 should be at least in the high 40s' on 20x.

You're right on the money with the tap shooting. 3-4 PPS on an mk2. vs 2 on a 2500. I dunno if it edges K-modded guns though. Mid-size K's will have more range, but less shot time and less field life per refill [12K is an exception, usually only backpack guns last longer]. The 2500 has the advantage in a long engagement, but the K's have it in a short one. Bigger K's should outdo it. 15K, 27K, I'd watch out for those. If it weren't so annoyingly designed, a 27K would be the superior modded gun - high range, the largest on-board reservoir, a nozzle with double digit shot time, and a 10x with a lot of raw power behind it. Unfortunately 2700 HPL is total crap, ask Ben or Robin how their 27K's turned out :p
