Hydro-Fury vs XP 215

Post by martianshark » Sun Feb 14, 2010 5:42 am

Does anyone know if the Super Soaker Hydro-Fury is better than the Super Soaker XP 215?

The 215 is one of the smallest supersoakers, so I think it would be safe to say that even a cheap chinese piston blaster could beat it.

Isn't the 215 good? According to Drenchenator's review, it's a pretty good gun.
The XP 215 is one of the smallest Super Soakers ever made. It fits in your pocket without issue and actually holds a fair amount of water for its size. Performance-wise it is spectacular for its size. I recommend this gun for anyone who plays a game of Assassins because it gets Super Soaker power in the size of a squirt gun.

According to Hasbro, the XP 215 gets 23 feet of range and the Hydro Fury gets 16 feet. I also think the Hydro Fury is smaller. But really, they both are tiny blasters that have to only be one's back-up or last-resort. I recommend a Max-D 2/3k instead because they get around 30 feet of range and fit in the average pocket.

I do get the suspicion that Hasbro are being more conservative with their range estimates now. In the past they were always rather optimistic. Maybe people have complained about the quoted ranges not being reached.

Also they have a strong reason to understand the range of the cheap Hydro Fury, in order to sell the more expensive blasters.

Meaning, I wouldn't be surprised if it performs almost identically to the XP-215.

The XP-215 is ultra-small - significantly smaller than the XP-220 or Max-D 2000. It doesn't pack much soakage, and the range is somewhat modest, but it's good for what it is. For what it's worth, it was never popular with Assassins at Cambridge, nor even was the 220. The 240 was a more popular blaster - despite its comparative chubbiness people managed to conceal it well enough. Rubber band guns were also very popular mind, having the advantage of being usable anywhere whereas there were lots of places water weapons weren't allowed.

@marauder_4: Well, I looked on their website and that's what it says. 16 feet is worse than a squirt pistol's range. Here's the funny part: Hasbro is actually bragging about it.
Hasbro wrote:One-on-one blasting action just got extra tricky! This two-pack includes two HYDRO FURY blasters that are easy to conceal for surprise attacks. The pump-pressurized blasting feature lets you pump up your “weapon” ahead of time and then deliver a steady stream up to 16 feet whenever you need it. Getting this blaster in your arsenal means you’re always ready to pounce, but watch out — your opponent’s got one, too!

If it does perform identically then why would you bother? It seems that either one would be suitable.

Apparently the XP 215 is better, so that's probably going to be the one that I'll buy.

Someone needs to do a side-by-side test really.

Maybe I'll buy both then.
