good cps soaker for me

Post by lollerdude98 » Sat Jun 19, 2010 4:23 pm

I just recently broke my cps 2100(broke the pump, its tracked, how did I do that? ), so I was wondering what would be a good scouting/sniping cps soaker.

I feel sorry for you, I've never had a CPS 2100 and they look so neat.

Scouting and Sniping are a little different, you're going to want different guns for each. If you want CPS Soakers, you're obviously going to be dishing out more cash on eBay.

For scouting: I reccommend a Max-D 5000. They're pretty light, quite small, enough firepower and have quite cool looks (though that seldom matters, lol)

For sniping: I reccommend a CPS 2000. Whilst expensive, it has the best range and power of every stock soaker ever. It's short, sniper-like shot time and it's range is more like sniping. It can reach 50ft with full pressure. However, sniping is hard to do in Water Warfare, remember.

If you're looking on eBay, the 1000 and 1200 are both arguably better than the 2100. Or you could get another 2100.

If you're looking for comparable current blasters, look to the top end of the Water Warriors lines. The Vindicator and Vanquisher are both very well regarded. There's also the Expedition and the Pulse Master, but the former is perhaps a little lacking in power while the latter has a very small PC that takes only 5 pumps to fill but then empties in the blink of an eye.

I remember my CPS 2100, it was great, but I haven't had any success in getting another one. The CPS 1000 is the closest that I have found to it, and it is just a little less powerful.

I think the 1000, 1200, or especially the 1500 make great sniping/scouting soakers. Also, if you want to get the Max-D 5000 instead, the performance of the Equalizer is pretty much the same.

I'm curious as to why it is said that a 1000 or 1200 would be superior to a 2100. I myself am of the opinion that the 2100 is probably the nicest due to the tracked pump. I dislike the 1200's color shceme, especially for scouting or sniping where stealth is important. the 1000 is definitely nice though.

All 1000's, 1200's and 2100's are roughly on equal ground with each other. The issue is that some marks of certain blasters are more difficult to k-mod than others. Particularly the mk. II of the 2100 is fairly poor. I've found that the older 1200's are the best for this.

Stock, they all perform roughly equally. It mainly depends on how the PRV is done and how easily it releases pressure, but that can possibly vary amongst even the same marks.

Tracked vs. free pumps is more towards personal preference. I do well with both as both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Almost every free pump I've used works just fine though a few do feel flimsy. However, the chances of one breaking is low enough for it not to be something to worry about. The main concern is if you lend blasters to people who are deliberately stupid, and I've lost reservoir and pump caps doing that. (I solved that problem by getting another cap and not inviting those people to my water wars anymore.) Tracked pump handles may break because they only connect to the pump rod by one point which is the main problem with them. Other considerations include having to lubricate them and remove their handles to open the blaster.

My own 1200 has a noticeably longer shot time than my 2100. iSoaker's shot time and PC capacity measurements back me up on this. The 2100 also holds a bit less water. Most importantly, the 1000 and 1200 have straps.

And my opinions on tracked pumps are mixed. Yes they're more robust, but they bring drawbacks. The track creates friction, increasing effort required to pump. More importantly, there needs to be space for the track. On the CPS 2100, this results in the handle being further back than on the 1000 and 1200. The handle positon on the latter two is fairly close to the centre of gravity, meaning the blaster is easily held and fired one-handed. Hold a full 2100 one-handed and it's rather front-heavy making it harder work.

All-in-all, then, I consider the 2100 the weakest of the three. That said, it is still a powerful and capable blaster. And it's worth noting that my 1200 has started suffering from a stuck trigger, while my 2100 is still working fine.

Thanks for the help! I am thinking of getting either the CPS 1000 or 1500. The CPS 1000 is lighter, and available on ebay right now, but the 1500 has a 5x and 10x nozzle, and a nice color scheme for scouting. Which one?

It depends on how much money you have to spend. CPS 1000's are really inexpensive compared to the CPS 1500's. And the 1000 is probably closer to what the CPS 2100 was. But if you have the money, I would spring for the CPS 1500.

1500: bigger, more powerful, costs more
1000: Smaller, good power for its size, very cheap

Well, looks like I forgot to mention something very important. A broken tracked pump is not difficult to fix and you can post in the repair forums if you need help/extra suggestions. I had to deal with the exact same problem on my 2100 and we have an article on how to fix it.

http://www.sscentral.org/repairs/broken ... andle.html

You can really use any bolt around as long as there's a nut that fits and as long as the bolt is long enough. I would recommend placing the bolt a bit farther back along the pump handle so there's more plastic to keep it together. I also filled up some of the plastic inside with epoxy/gorilla glue which should help preserve the integrity of the handle. I also added some metal plating to the outside through where the holes are drilled, but this can be a hazard if you don't clean up any sharp edges.

So while you look for a new CPS, feel free to fix the old one.

Thanks for the link! But the entire left side of the pump is broken, including the part that holds the bolt. I'll probably just use some other plastic plating.

Well that's going to be a problem. I've previously experimented with using a half-cut piece of PVC pipe fit onto the pump track, but it didn't end up so well. Actually, as far as I know, no one has found a way to completely improvise such pump handles.

Maybe if you use a half-cut pipe that's larger, it could work. The one I experimented with (1.25") was too small. 1.5" should work but most likely won't fit on the track snuggly. That shouldn't be a problem though if you use a bolt that's about the same size as the rod itself (about 1/4" thick or 3/16", you may want to measure the hole and/or the pump handle's rod if it's still available, with a ruler), which should help keep it centered better.
