XP-70

Post by Finnster » Tue Jun 23, 2009 1:21 am

Hey guys. I was at Kohls earlier today, and wandered into the toy section. I was looking at Nerf guns and Super Soakers when something caught my eye. It turned out to be an XP-70. I'm fairly certain that this is a remake of the old one, but I'm not the greatest with SS history. Anyways, a review similar to my review of the SS 50 is on the way.

A photo of the box[/b] would be helpful for dating when it was made. Also see if you can find any dates on the box, like a copyright date.

I'd be very surprised if XP70's were being made again. It's an old design, and 'superseded' by the 270, which has a more robust construction.

DUDE. the XP-70 was my favorite soaker when I had one several years ago. However it got dropper or accidentally stepped on and the reservoir got a hole in it, and it got thrown out. : (

I wish i could have it again

also to tell if it's a remake, the original that I had was yellow with blue reservoir/pressure chamber with a orange pump handle.
the remake was blue with clear yellow/greenish reservoir
My "arsenal": Customizable APH, Storm 600 pistol (still haven't finished fixing this), launcher- Model:AB1.0(Decommissioned), AB1.5, soon AB 1.1(2"rebuild) maybe ill get something else in the future

Actually, cantab, I think we've seen a few XP 70 remakes here and there over the past few years. Which, as you said, is strange given the presence and continuing re-releases of the more robust XP 270.

Looking forward to the review.

It is a remake, and Specter, I can probably get you one if you'd like, my mom said that we can go grab some more of them, cause they seem really cool. The date on the box says 2008, and I'll take a picture this afternoon after I get back from engineering camp. I'll do the review around that time, too.

I've seen some XP70's that were common last year, but I've never seen any 270's re-released.

Its nice of you to offer. But it would probably cost quite a bit to ship it. Also on the topic of cost, how much did the soaker cost? I know since Kohls is mainly a clothing store (at least here in NJ it is), they tend to have cheap prices on the other stuff they carry such as toys and other things.
The other thing is I would like to have it in the original colors. I've seen the original pop up on ebay once in a while but I haven't made an ebay account.

Cost: $14.99 + tax

Here are the test results of one of the XP-70 remake blaster by Super Soaker.

Range Level (last drop): 32 feet
Range 45* Angle (last drop): 41 feet
Shot time (full range): 3 seconds

All tests were performed with 30 pumps. This blaster shoots as long as you keep pumping. You only have to pump it a couple of times to achieve about a one second shot time and maximum range. Questions?

The XP70 will have just as severe a pressure drop as any other separate air PC water gun.

However, pressure doesn't correlate linearly with performance. Range in particular can remain relatively constant over a significant pressure range.

And being able to keep pumping and shooting just means you can pump as fast as the gun outputs water. It doesn't mean it's constant pressure.
