The New Guy

Post by fireguy2002 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 2:49 am

So here I sit in Fairbanks, AK. We've got a Red Green Regatta every year. The only point is to build something that floats and float it. Kinda like a Red Bull FlugTag. We're Army so we decided on a Humvee. That's how I decided to build my first water gun. Here it is. Let me know if you see anything for improvements.

An Idea of how to post pics would be awesome as well.

That looks like a nicely polished water gun. I really don't see any improvements to make.

I'll make the customary suggestion of a metal pipe nipple if you find the drilled-endcap streams to be too turbulent.

Thanks for taking a look. I was in a hurry when I pulled the plans offline. I'll definitely try the nipple. I've only fired it with the 1/8" drilled hole and wide open, so I think the nipple would be an improvement. My partner in crime is planning to go with a larger one for the event, but I've got plenty of time to research the site and rebuild. About the only stipulation we have is that it be self contained. it might be rough to bring a coompressor on our homemade boat.

Looks like mine with the three towers.

Mine broke though. :(

Dude, that's weak. How did it break? Have you made a new one yet with any improvements?

It broke at the orange arrow. The force of pumping against the force of holding (red arrows) caused too much tension. It wasn't cemented at that spot, only screwed in with teflon, which i suspect made it weaker.

I am designing a new model with a completely different design.

Hmm, perhaps we should add something about a support in the guide - thanks for the diagram.

I'm sorry to hear your water gun broke.

Yes, if I made another gun in this style I would cut some pipe to fit between maybe the section under the arrow and the pump shaft. It wouldn't be connected to anything, just cemented to the outside.

Thanks for the sympathy. My next one will be better though. :o
