Ahh, good old IRC chat.
A good idea, but a pain in the butt to setup if you've never done it before (I haven't but I know a bit about it).
And considering you have already got "What's IRC?" responses to this one post, I think it's not be worth the effort setting one up.
If you are insistant on getting IRC chat, get a channel registered on EFNET or DALnet, get some ops idling there (learn how to work the channel bot first), and tell people how to connect to it, or get java-based access like the Aquatica IRC Chat had (give me ops too ). I hate java access, so have some alternate way for me to get on
