Mozilla Firefox v1.5

Post by MilkMan » Thu Dec 01, 2005 2:07 am

Mozilla has just updated their web browser! Not sure how long ago this happened however... Just thought I'd announce this since many of you probably use Firefox. Happy Browsing!

I think it came out the day before yesterday. Worth doing, even if you haven't yet tried out Firefox yet - what are you waiting for? ;)

I use Opera. I like it much more than Firefox. And also, just like Firefox, it runs on Linux, so I can use it.
I don't check this forum anymore.

I've had v 1.5 for months now as a BETA release. I use BETA software if it appears to be stable enough.

So would it's current release be called a Gamma now? I've only heard Alpha used once, and that was on Trillian.
Whatever music you listen to probably sucks.

I use Safari (Mac). Works faster than Netscape and Explorer with all the same capabilities (well, Explorer can do those "Internet Explorer v4 required" things). I like the bookmark set up and top bar much better too.

That's probably because Alpha releases aren't generally available to the general public.

I like the added functionality in Opera, but it's too bulky for me on my current system. I might switch later on though.

Well, if you're a Mac user you may be interested in one of Mozilla's other browsers. Camino.

Personally, I actually prefer the former version. I just downloaded 1.5 this morning and think it is a little buggy. It crashed for me a few minutes ago, and seems to render my online journal oddly.

Welcome back Budgie...haven't seen you on here in a while!

I don't know about rendering problems, but Firefox is generally 'right' in such matters...have you double-checked your code?

I've switched from just plain old IE to Firefox yesterday. I downloaded the newest version, and I love it. So much faster and more secure. Plus I got this sweet looking skin and all those add-ons I like :D

Mozilla owns you all :P
Including Opera, which has nothing Mozilla doesn't.

Hmmm, it's a shame I didn't notice this topic earlier.

The moment I upgraded to 1.5, the first thing I noticed was the speed of the menus. Don't ask me why, but it always took a while for the menus in 1.0 to load, but now they pop up instantly.

But Budgie makes a good point--1.5 does have some rendering bugs. The text on some pages can be slightly messed up in some lines (it is slanted akwardly), but it goes away if you highlight that text or scroll the page up and down (but maybe this is from TextScroll...).

Weird. Mine works perfectly with the exception that when you load multiple sites at once in tabs, one or more of them tends to time out. You refresh, then it pops up as if nothing happened.
