Why?

Post by radman » Sun Jun 04, 2006 12:58 am

I was wondering. Why is there a 75 character limit on posts?

It's not a limit, it's a minimum. This is to keep people from responding with "huh?" "l.olZ!!!11" "cool" or anything of that nature. If it's that short, it's not worth posting.

Yep. It usually helps keep spam and useless posts away. Although, just adding something like a ton of spaces should bypass it... :D

EDIT: Hey...whaddya know....the smileys actually worked!

The post minimum is 50 characters, not 75 characters. That's essentially less than one or two sentences. For the record, the first sentence of this paragraph was 53 characters, so it is about one sentence.

This minimum prevents worthless and single line posts. If you are constantly running into it, write a little more or don't post at all. Do not extend your post with spaces, random characters, or lots of the same character. That just takes up my space and time and if you do it enough, you'll severely anger me to the point where I won't deal with you any longer.

The two paragraphs above were 522 characters. Two paragraphs are 10 times the minimum. To be honest with you, I don't know how you could have a problem meeting that minimum.

Shouldn't this be under the Feedback subforum? By the way, this has been brought up many times in that subforum...you only need to look (and search).

Yes, there shouldn't be any problem with meeting the minimum, but more importantly, if you can't meet it, don't post. There are times when I have a point to make, but it just doesn't have enough material to be taken seriously--even by me. I just incorporate the point into my next post.

I just find it annoying when people post single words, such as "Cool." And even worse, those words are often slang or use poor spelling and grammar.

I've been working on a so far 37,290 character article at ISCF, and you're complaining about 50 characters? Kinda sad...

Over 745 times the minimum when I repost it at SSC... :p

Wow, I didn't even know there was a character minimum. I suppose that shows that I dont post worthless things like:
"huh?" "l.olZ!!11" "cool"
:p
