CPS 27K
I understand that an unreinforced heavy k-mod is not at all recommended for a 2700, but would a 10-20 balloon k be worth it? I'm already in love with this soaker (despite the fact that I've had it for 2 days), and want to further increase its (already high) power.
I've been told that it's somewhat difficult to put back together, so is such a light k-mod worth all the trouble?

I see you've been searching K-mod threads. I remember reading about the limit of the CPS 2700 too, but who knows how much is real and how much is garbage. Also, there may have been some information on the old SSC site...so check the archive at archive.org.

My CPS 2700 was hard to take apart. I had a glued pump cap combined with stripped screw heads. Putting it together once it was apart was easy, however.
A light K-mod should be fine. Just be aware that the valve is pretty thin as is. 45 balloons was too much for my CPS 2700. 30 probably would be safe. 20 definitely would be safe.
I would suggest reinforcing the valve somehow just to be safe. Filling in the internal corners with putty epoxy after sanding the inside should help. Some sort of external reinforcing would help too. The valve cracked on the corner, so put a metal strip along the corner and epoxy it on. That should help. Be creative.

I put 15 balloons on one of my CPS 2700's a few years ago, and the trigger valve busted in a matter of weeks. I have another 2700 now, and I'm not going to bother K-modding it at all.
I'd say even if you're only doing a light K-mod, take Ben's advice and make sure you reinforce that valve as best you can!

I recently got steel reinforced epoxy putty, so I'm considering this again, but I'm still somewhat scared.

Well before actually modding it I would consider risk - benefit ratio. If it blows up, you suddenly lose your nice gun, and if it works, you're not gonna get that much from 15 balloons, and you'll have put in a bunch of effort to reinforce it. Unless you absolutely need more range or power in the water fights you're getting in, I wouldn't do it. -Cue DX to talk about how you can make due with whatever gun you have anyway-

It might be a good idea to reinforce the valve even if you don't modify. I'd rough up the inside of the valve and cover the inside corners in putty epoxy. Of course, this would remove the ability to open the valve which could be a problem if you have to repair the seal, but if you don't care then it would work to reinforce the valve. On my CPS 2700, the valve cracked along the seam of one of the edges, and I would imagine other CPS 2700s would break in the same area.
If you want to keep the ability to open the valve, cover the corners but don't join the putty epoxy in the middle of the two halves. Just put enough to cover the corners and nothing to allow the putty epoxy to merge in the center, basically.
