Looking for something small with a good range

Post by nunt » Tue Mar 13, 2007 4:46 pm

Looking at the guide I think the type of weapon I want is a scout.
The colouring doesnt matter. I want one that is small and concealable but with the best range possible. I've used a storm 600 which i like, but im unable to find one anywhere so far. Thats the largest size I would go for.

In the water gun world, soakers really aren't specialized or categorized. I guess that article is a bit wrong, sorry. But there are some good guns with good range and small size. A modified Flash Flood, a Max-D 5000, or a smaller Water Warriors gun should fit your priorities nicely. I'd go with the Max-D 5000 if it isn't too big.

I think the Triple Shot is good too, and pistol sized (for me at least). I'm not sure about it's trigger valve system, rumored to be weak and to fail to open after only moderate use, but the TS is still available in some stores for cheap.

Welcome to SSC. :)

The XP 215 is a really great small water gun that is still being produced to the best of my knowledge. They can be a little hard to find, but if one is found I would highly suggest it. Last year my brother bought one in a dual-pack with a Liquidator.

Any small water gun by Buzz Bee Toys (the Water Warriors brand) is good as well.

If you want it compact in the pocket, a Max-D 2000 or 3000 should do the job. If you don't mind making a clip or strap and carrying something heavier, a Max-D 5000 sized gun as said, should do well. However, the closest to the pocket pistol I've tried is a 5000 and SC400, though I'm sure the smaller Max-D's and Water Warriors should do.

Remember, you don't get a position based on your blaster, you buy a blaster based on your position... at least, I hope that's how all squads are run...
Just about anything from 2002 is going to sound dated...these days you shouldn't get a position based on your blaster OR buy a blaster based on your position.

Based on your size limits, I'd recommend guns like the Max-D 2000, Max-D 5000, or Water Warriors pistols. XP 220s and XP 240s are also very small, not the best in terms of stats, but they are really easy to find. If you make the size limit a bit larger, better guns open up like the XP 270 and SC 600. However, they are more difficult to conceal.

DX is right - Blasters & postion should only be vaguely linked.

You should buy a blaster that's good for you - the right size and powerful enough.

Your postion should be based on what you can do well. If you are stealthy, then that should be your position, even if you do use a massive soaker.
If you can support others well in a firefight, then you should be a HWO, even if you do only use an XP310.

I suppose I should qualify the whole "don't use roles" thing. The idea is that nearly no blasters are specialized--and high range is good for any type of use, camoflauge can be used for any type of use, etc. There are very few aspects of a blaster that only apply to one position.

Thus, somebody going as a "scout" really isn't going to benefit from using a smaller weapon any more than a grunt would. Somebody going as a "heavy weapons specialist" isn't going to benefit from using a high-output weapon any more than a grunt would.

That point leads to another issue--the fact that the roles themselves are very similar and aren't too specialized. Going in as a "sniper" isn't going to have much more advantage over going in as a grunt--the ranges are essentially the same as for everybody else, and you'll get spotted anyway (and if you are stealthy, then you can be a stealthy grunt). All roles have similar capabilities, thus they are considered to be one and the same.

EDIT: Woah, sorry for bringing the thread off-topic.

Silent Guy's post summed up into one sentence: Use the Ubiquitous Position. Almost anyone is capable of performing almost any role or combination of roles at almost any time using almost any gun. Specialize your gun for anything and/or everything. There are some things which have highly strategic specialized uses [such as a water cannon for a single ambush], but the vast majority of guns can be used for whatever the user is capable of. Physical abilities, such as stealth, should be used to enhance, not define.
