Is the new SS50 worth the price?

Post by steelboot » Sat Jun 20, 2009 3:50 pm

Should I get it? Will it actually be of use or is it for collectors?

If you have five dollars and steelboot has five dollars, steelboot has more money than you.

I've heard it's improved over the original, but still not the best performer. So it's probably not the best choice for either the water warrior or the collector. I suppose you've seen the talk at iSoaker.com already.

This gun is worth the price depending on what you need it for. It's great for duel wielding and it's cheap enough that you can easily equip an entire team with them. I'd suggest reading my short review about it for more information.

For $15, you can get a Flash Flood on sale, a Tiger Shark, or maybe a disconted Vindicator. The Pulse Master may also be priced around there but I'm not sure. All of those are better than the 50.

And yet, the 50's a classic. Despite all the changes made, I'd get one for it's compact, original feel. Some of the changes are good too, like more durability to the design, a proper pull valve, etc. It's one of those nice guns for light/low powered blasters only matches.

I adore the new SS50. It feels like more gun, thats the best way too describe it. The pump feels more stable, the build in general is better. I don't like that you can't take the bottle out anymore, but thats not a big issue. The SS50 20TH A edition is still a lot more durable and has a larger tank. I remember when I was six and I held my first SS50 it felt like a real gun, but now when I pick it up it does have a flimsy, light feel to it, so the new one is a lot better.
