My new 21K

Post by StormGlorious » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:21 am

Yesterday I finished a 40 balloon K-Mod on one of my CPS 2100's, a MK 3. Range unmodded was 40 ft. With the mod range has jumped to 52 feet. With a nozzle that can better handle the power, I think that I might be able to squeeze a further 2-3 feet.

Having tried both helium balloons and just regular balloons, I have discovered that helium ballons are more powerful. The regular balloons shot just 47 feet.

The stream speed is also exceptional.

What type of shot times are you getting? is the stream laminar?

Sounds good though. Did you need to disable the pressure relief valve?

21Ks are awesome. Hope you enjoy the power! [once you start down that path, it's hard to pull back :) ]

The Stream is perfectly laminar, perhaps even more so than before???. Shot times are pretty much the same, though perhaps a little on the shorter side.

Are there balloons that make a distinction about helium? I wasn't aware there was any difference (I thought all balloons were for helium, but I guess not), but if it makes a 5 foot difference in range then it's worth investigating. I guess since helium is a smaller molecule than nitrogen and other components of air it needs a more tightly packed balloon.

If you're using the same number of balloons, my guess is the helium ones are simply thicker.

Helium balloons are better because they are thicker and more durable in comparison.

I make balloon animals, and believe me, if the balloons are not helium quality, they pop at least 50%+ more than the latex ones.

I've never come across modeling balloons that ARE 'helium quality'. I've never known anyone to make balloon animals helium filled.

Generally, you do not use helium with the modelling balloons. Generally, the balloons that are "modelling balloons" are long balloons, like the ones clowns use.*shudder*

The best brand of balloons that are helium quality are the ones that are either Qualatex or other brands of latex balloons, that say "Helium Rated" or something of the sort. Keep in mind, I was talking about the long twisty balloons, not round ones in my last part of my last post.

Anyhow, to be safe, I'd go with helium grade, and as Storm discovered, they give a range boost. They will probably last much longer than a normal balloon

Back on topic (and sorry for necromancy).

Did that K-mod require the PRV to be disabled? If so, roughly how many balloons goes on before that is needed.

I've got a 2100, think it's the Mark II though. The stream lamination is somewhat lacking. Nonetheless, range is the best in my arsenal (and longer than my usual test area, so it's hard to be sure :-( ) but I wouldn't say no to improvement. However, with it being my only CPS, I don't want to risk breakage.

Yes, I disabled the PRV. I actually don't think that you need to disable the PRV really. I mainly did it for if I want to add more balloons in the future.

A little late to be getting back here, don't you think? =p

I have a MK II 2100 myself, and it's not very nice. I'd disable the PRV myself, but it has had all sorts of other problems; leaks, pump handle breakage, trigger piece breakage, and trigger valve not being able to close. I'm surprised it's been holding up with my repairs for so long.

My favorite still remains the 1200. While I don't really like the non-linear, more "organic" design, it has great handling and out of all the spherical CPS's I have, it can take the most balloons. I actually have 2 12k's, and one of them simply needed a few repairs.

I've always avoided PRV removals though. There's always the chance that someone will pick up the gun and pump it until the casing blows up in their face.
