broken CPS 2000 MK1 for repair

Post by VAJMH » Mon May 24, 2010 4:01 pm

I have a CPS 2000 MK1 in good shape except for the pressure chamber being busted. I would be willing to sell it for 60 dollars to someone who knows how to repair this sort of thing with inner tube and whatnot, all the parts are still there.

For the record, the "repair" would involve completely replacing the pressure chamber, most likely with a length of latex rubber tubing. People have done this.

I have it working again, did a trick with little plastic ties wound super tight and the original plug put back in. I cut off the place where the chamber had ruptures, so it doesnt hold full pressure anymore, but it goes to 3/4 power.

Ah, yes, that works if the rips are close to one end. But it probably means the whole bladder is close to its end of life.

That's a +1 for cylinderical chambers right there. I always liked spherical more just because they're easy to work with but cylindericals have a lot less dead space and are more likely to be repaired. Usually however, ruptures occur in the center of the tube.

In the future you will almost certainly have to replace the bladder. If you can't get LRT, you may be able to look into those cylinderical craft balloons, but no one has done it before as far as I know.

It seems to work fine now except it only builds about 1/2 to 3/4 pressure. For a 2000MK1 thats still a good soaking though. Where could one find this repair at, I'd like to have a look.

I also take it that the pressure gauge is also no longer visible when at no pressure. Nonetheless, it's likely that the bladder is still extending the same range that it does usually. It just means that it holds less water at its full expansion and has less dead space, or water held when the bladder is not under any pressure.

I'm not completely sure though, but that seems to be the most likely.

It fills from a little over empty to a little under 3/4 and has no trouble there, pressure gauge remains visible and it all looks good. I tested it pretty thoroughly now.
