PreCharge your standard air-pressure soaker

Post by Silence » Fri May 05, 2006 7:37 pm

I just came up with an idea: it is possible to PreCharge any standard air-pressure soaker (not CPS, though). Essentially, in PreChargers and the Defender, extra air is added to the PC as well as water, increasing the pressurization efficiency/capability while allowing for less dropoff. However, to prevent losing that air pressure, a plunger is used in the PC to separate the air and the water.

You can actually PreCharge any standard air-pressured soaker (APHs, XPs, Max-Ds, etc.) by pumping it up with an empty reservoir as opposed to one filled with water. Then, fill the reservoir before shooting the gun and pump it up, and you'll have a PreCharger. However, you should not fire until the PC is completely empty, as the air will start to come out. Skilful air-pressured soaker users will pump up before they lose too much pressure anyway, and in this case, that is neccessary--that's the difference between a PreCharged air-pressure soaker and a PreCharger.

The shapes of air pressure PC's are oddly shaped or cylindrical, so a piston wouldn't be insertable. You would have to completely replace the PC.

Actually, my point was that you shouldn't have to insert a plunger (though a PC replacement could still help and prove to be a surprise to your enemies). You just need to pressurize the air (before you fill the water, hopefully) in addition to standard pumping. Of course, the lack of a plunger means that you should pump before you empty your PC to make sure that the water can come out instead of the air.

That's very common to do with an air pressure soaker. You'll see it all over iSoaker.com. He suggests turning the soaker upsidedown to pump air in (works in most soakers, since the intake tube is usually in the bottom of the reservoir).

Thanks for pointing that out...just make sure (everybody who does this) that you keep your PC topped up to prevent losing the extra air pressure.

EDIT: I should hope the intake tube is at the bottom of the reservoir!

Well some have a flexible tube (like the Flash Flood, for one) that will go up and down, so it might be able to draw water upsidedown with a full reservoir.

Losing air pressure wouldn't be too bad. You would just turn your soaker upsidedown and pump it back up.

Sure, a loss of air pressure can be fixed quite easily, but it defies the purpose of PreCharging...

PreCharging makes sure that your gun has plenty of pressure throughout your shot and reduces dropoff, to some extent as CPS does, and it makes sure you don't need to pump too much during battle. If you have to get that extra air pressure back each time you pump, then you're wasting time and losing the battle practicality that you could have had. Besides, good water warriors should top off their non-PCg/CPS soakers anyway to prevent the loss of pressure.
