I have an ipod, and ive never had any problems with it. What generation is it?
If its fairly new you can always get a refund. I say grab the oven mits and run to the nearest apple store or mac specialist.

The dramatic yet unlikely possible problem.

You were busting out the music at full volume. Then that crazy base solo starts, the small vibrations travel down the headphone cord and into the ipod. That was all it needed, the fan (it has a small fan right?) couldn't take any more stres. Boom! From outside it was a small rattle, but you couldn't hear, the music was too awesome. On the inside the fan was ripping apart. Fanblade shrapnel went flying through the internals, ripping apart chips, and boards. One peice went shooting through the harddrive casing was wedged into the disk. It couldn't spin and more and started heating up. WIth no fan to cool it down, it just got hotter and hotter.

The 48 hour prediction:
The strong manufacturing of the ipod was holding up against the heat and small quick vibrations of the harddrive trying to resume coarse. But it couldent keep I in forever. Eventually the ipod reaches over 600 degress and burns a hole through the table. Over a few hourse, it makes it through the floor and eventually falls onto the water heater.

the 96 hour prediction:
The ipod has reached high levels even for kelvin scale, and the ipod case as well as the water heater case start to melt. The ipod falls into the water heated and everything blows up. You come home to a crater, and the smokey remains of a mushroom cloud.

Those will be the events if you Don't do anything!

You just gotta love worst-case scenarios. :P

Although I don't have one, I agree that the cooling fan (if there is one) or hard drive is at fault. The hard drive could just be falling apart, which is possible if the Ipod was dropped several times and you listen to extremely loud music with lots of bass.
Rereading these forums make me feel old >.<

It was angry at you because you put too many songs with cursing on it.
