I've never played any of the doom series, but I am look ing foreward to halo 2
because halo's multiplayer was awesome(fav level:sidewinder).

My friend's mom entered in a raffle for halo 2, and won.

It only costed a dollar to enter. B) Shweet!

I heard it has amazing graphics. almost rivaling hl 2's. I Don't have it though. my card is an old ati radeon 7200. my dad is only willing to pay 60$ max for a new card. woe is me. WOE IS ME! no more direct x9 games. so no hl2, no halo 2, no doom 3, no far cry! Ahhhhhh :( ;(

doom 3 has better graphics than HL2. The textures in HL2 suck compared to D3.

I have beaten the game already on Vetran mode , it is amazing, it will scare the sh!t out of you if you play it by yourself, headphones turned up, and pitchblack dark. I am currently starting Nightmare mode, which is again amazing. ^-^

$60 is enough to buy a good card! Try getting a nVidia GeForce FX 5200.
I don't check this forum anymore.

RacerSoaker445 is right, you can buy a very decent video card for $60 these days. I would also go with the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 on a budget. The cool thing about DOOM 3 is it scales very well on less than top end systems. I have a P4 3.2 with 1gb of memory, and a Radeon 9700 pro 128mb. With my video card overclocked I can run 800 x 600 on Ultra settings. I have played it on an Athlon 1.4 with a Radeon 8500 64mb, with 512mb of memory, and it still looks great. Playing this game in a dark room at night will have you on the edge of your seat.

The fx 5200 is FAR from a decent card. The ti 4600 is faster than it. In order to get a half decent card be willing to spend at least $100.

You could say that a Radeon 8500 is far from a decent card these days too, but it will play Doom 3 pretty well. So will the old Geforce 3. I have friends who think my 9700 Pro is obsolete, I guess it depends on your perspective. Something that gets the job done is often good enough. I see the Radeon X800 XT Platnium 256MB DDR PCI-X TV & DVI has dropped to only $545., a relative bargain.

PCI express is overrated anyway. the X800 XT PCIX got its butt kicked by the 6800 ultra and even the 6800 GT in doom 3.

I was actually happy when I managed to upgrade my computer to the point that it'd play GTA:VC, but that was about a year and a half ago... While it's certainly not a bad machine and it does what I need it to do at present, I'm highly skeptical that it'd be able to handle Doom 3.

Hey King, how much did you spend to build your computer? I'm thinking about saving up to build another one...

Aaron,

I have 3 computers that are networked, this works out well for lan parties. My main system Has over a terra-byte of hard drive space, with an a bit IC7-G mother board, and 1gb of memory. My 9700 Pro video card is actually an AIW (All in Wonder) that has TIVO like recording capability. Needless to say, I have quite a bit of money tied up in computers, but this is my profession.

I build quite a few systems for friends, and I would say you can build a very decent computer for about $400 to $500. Check out this aluminum case with 400 watt power supply for $36.50

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 008&depa=1

If you already have some components, you could upgrade just the case, motherboard, cpu, and memory for about $200, add a decent video card, and you are still under $300. for a very good gaming system.

From what I hear, Alienware is good with video games.
