CPS 12K vs 10K/1200?

Post by DX » Sat May 26, 2007 8:30 pm

Well, my CPS 1200 arrived yesterday, so I started to mod it, but have come to an interesting situation. Would a plain 12K be stronger than a 10K integration using the 1200 as the host? I've seen the power of a heavy 12K, but I've never seen a 10000/1200 integration, probably because XN last did it like 7 years ago. Supposedly, the 1200 is a great host because of its strong HPL, which matters since I don't intend to disable the pressure release valve.

There is some general skepticism about integrations, but this one was recommended by XN himself. So I'm not sure which type of mod to pursue? I do have a good mark of 1200, don't know which one, but I do know that the nozzle cover and pump cap were totally unglued. This thing also has respectable stock power - about 42-46 ft range eyeballed, on the upper end for a mid-size CPS. Whichever power mod I end up choosing will push it over 50ft, possibly over 55. And this is light to moderate - I bet I could hit 60 if the mod is heavy.

I suppose if you're sure that the 1200 has a higher "high pressure limit," then go for it. I don't know how justified that conclusion is, but if there's nothing to lose...

After pc comparisons, I think I'm actually going to stick to the 12K. My stock 1200 pc is actually very similar in size to the 10K pc with 30 balloons! It is also significantly larger than a stock 2100 pc. These findings are important, as they re-establish the order among mid-size CPS guns. The 1200 is a better guest than the 1000 or 2100 [the pc case itself is also larger, allowing the pc to expand more]. The 1200 is also a better host than the 1000 or 2100 [the 1200's capacity can better support a power modded gun and the PRV is stronger]. Therefore, you might as well just k-mod a 1200 over itself like normal.

I used to be a 2100 guy, but now I think the 1200 definitely has more modding potential and starting power.

Well, the mod is done! I did stick with the 12K, and am really surprised at the results. Unlike with most light k-mods, I wanted to get as much raw power as possible. While most use 20-35 balloons and get about 20 pumps, they don't get as much range as they could. I used 45 balloons, which allows 13-15 pumps.

Now here is the interesting part - this gun matches some of my former CPS 21K's in range. While most of them shot over 55ft, those were all last drop measurements. The puddles of the old 21K's were closer to 47-56, depending on the gun. This 12K with its lowly 45 balloons, intact PRV, and stock nozzle puts its puddle at ~48-50. It doesn't like to hit 50, however, it can if you take a long pulse shot. 50ft doesn't sound impressive anymore, but since I've purged all my last drop ranges, 50 has become a lot again. My 12K comes nowhere close to my old guns in terms of stream speed, but then again, I wasn't expecting anything close - guns with 80-95 balloons have ridiculous stream speed.

I tried a multi-nozzle mod, but it didn't work out that well. You've got to keep the electrical tape back on the nozzle, so the custom nozzle ends up touching the stock one. Otherwise, the stream loses everything in the transfer zone between them. I took the tape off, bunched it up, and threw it out, before realizing that I'm out of electrical tape. So that mod will have to wait.

Ths 1200 does indeed have a sweet HPL. I couldn't get 15 pumps out of a 21K with this many balloons before the PRV kicked in.

So basically, I now have a gun that's much smaller and much lighter than my 2500 with a bit more range and a lot more stream speed. I'll use this as my primary in the next war, which unfortunately won't be until two weeks, for next weekend is our senior prom.

For the new arsenal that is somewhat limited to water guns that aren't heavily modded (for durability), I'd say 50 feet is fairly impressive. Larger internal tubing and a higher HPL with more balloons explains the difference, I should think. That also helps explain the increased range with less impressive stream speed.

Nicely modded!
