Gun Nozzle diameter question

Post by Negative » Tue Jul 15, 2008 1:35 am

How would I read something like '5x' or '30x'? What does the 'X' mean? 5 times? But 5 times what? What is 1x? 1 millimeter?

The X is shorthand for ounces per second. The system was actually based upon the XP 70's water output according to the boxes and commercials. The XP 70's output wasn't constant but it seems output was determined to be about 1 ounce per second when you look at actual water output figures.

To measure it, shoot water into a bucket for one second (or a different amount of time, as long as you scale it down), then measure the volume of water inside. There's no real shortcut for finding the output in X. The iSoaker.com reviews do document the output of most water guns, but you can't tell just by looking at them.

There should be a reasonable correlation between nozzle area and output though. However since isoaker don't give nozzle diameter measurements, it's hard to reliably test.
