How Does This Work?

Post by Leprechaun71588 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 10:34 pm

Lately I've been working on my homemade gun, and I'm trying to improve the range on it. I read that putting straws in the nozzle helps keep the stream together so it will go farther. I've tried it, but it didn't work for me. It only dropped the range. Can anyone explain this to me more clearly, or tell me what might be going wrong.

Putting straws will not make is shoot farther, it will laminate the stream.

Laminating the stream WILL make it shoot farther, as far as I know.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your problem, you might have to wait for Doom to answer this.

Could the problem be that I'm putting too many in? I'm using 1/2" PVC and a 1/4" nozzle, with 5 straws. Is that too many? Too few? Is there a better way to improve stream lamination?

I'm not sure about this one, but I found something interesting with Super Soakers. If you notice that all the CPS models have a stainless screen in the nozzle. I tried removing the screen from a CPS 2700 thinking it would shoot farther. It had the reverse effect, and only made the stream break up.

I've never seen one of these screens. Would you happen to have a pic of it I could see? Maybe that would work better than the straws...

No, Doom put more in his.
Any idea of how many is good? When I use 5, it's already getting a little crowded, I didn't think it would be a good idea to do any more because it would block the water from getting through.

I checked on his Air-Pressure home made, and he had 8, but he was using 3/4" pvc.

Ahh yes all CPS guns (from what I know) have that screen. It makes the stream all awesome like and less stupid like.

The straws, when I used them in my homemade, just made the range worse. I'm probably going to use mesh because it works in CPS guns, so it's gotta work in a homemade. However, I think the 2500 and 2000 have a straw like thing along with a mesh screen.

Some Soakers with higher output (I think at least 10X, but there is no scale really) have straw like plastic things, that acording to Doom are 3.5 inches long. Most just have a screen. If you are using 3/4" then that is garden hose sized, so oyu can buy garden hose screens. They are a metal mesh with rubber on the rim for a good seal. Look at a hardware store for em. I think you should have a screen after the straws too if you are going to put em in.

Haha, my homemade's output is over 50x on the 1/4" nozzle. That's a bit over 10x, I'd say. Yet the straws just made it worse. I'll look for these garden hose screens you speak of.

I Don't like my riot blast. It puts it off way to fast. If there was a little less drop off it would be nice.
O, and by the way, I Don't think your supposed to put the straws in the riot blast.

Uhh, 1/4" isnt riot blast. It's one of my nozzles, has a clean stream, and its output is still over 50x.

Maybe that was my problem. I was trying it on my 1/4" nozzle. I just made an 1/8" nozzle, maybe it will work better on that.
