2009 water guns

Post by SSCBen » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:14 pm

Aside from the new Water Warriors Pulse series, I can't recall anything new for 2009.

The start of 2009 seems a little slow but once we get some more information things might heat up. This thread will be the place for that information.

I myself am wondering what Super Soaker has in store for 2009. I think there was some discussion about the HydroBlitz being discontinued, but that doesn't seem to be true because Amazon is still selling them. Perhaps Hasbro's getting back into the "new guns on even years" cycle and 2010 will be the year of change.

I think Super Soaker just doesn't get that the high-powered CPSes (or even other powerful guns) will still sell well. They stopped selling them to target a younger audience, but what they don't realize is that these bigger blasters can still sell, and will be quite popular. In fact, they might even be popular among younger kids, as most seem to think "bigger is better".

It makes sense no one wants to pay engineers to design new guns with the economy like this. Also, i'm sure there some well payed analysts at SS who've decided it would be a bad idea from a monetary point of view.

iSoaker has some more information about the Water Warriors guns: http://www.isoaker.net/isnet/topic3689.html

@Goldfish: The problem isn't necessarily that they won't sell well (and from what I know, the largest water guns like the Monster X and Monster XL simply don't sell), it's the size of the blasters being problematic. Larger blasters mean less on the shelves at one time. Assuming the same profit is made on every water gun, it makes more sense to stock smaller ones even if they all sell about the same number of units. And to reiterate, while we'd buy the larger ones, most people don't consider them. This is just a sad fact. Maybe things are changing though.

Hunt_and_Annoy's take is very reasonable. If there's nothing new for 2009 it probably due to the poor economy.

Hey ben I'm back.

I am hoping that Hasbro will possibly bring back the old CPS guns.
not these childishly weak guns. Homemades are not very good at conserving ammo
but the old CPS guns were. so I hope Hasbro made a newyears resolution.

oh and Happy Halloween, ThanksGiving, Holidays, and NewYear :P

The Max-D type valves can't scale up enough to give CPS power. They also break. But they seem to be what Hasbro insist on using now.

my guess is that eventually, super soaker will need something larger to compete with the orca. i havent been seeing any of the newer super soaker guns on the battlefield lately. which means a possiblility of new cps guns is there.

I doubt that powerful water guns like the CPS line in the late 90s will return for several years at least. The economy will take several years to make a full recovery. And a strong economy doesn't necessarily mean any company will decide to start producing larger and more powerful water guns. Again, to reiterate what I know, the larger water guns are less profitable, so essentially retailers phased them out.

This might seem a little pessimistic too, but I honestly don't think Hasbro cares about producing improved water guns any longer. Their focus has shifted to Nerf. From what I know the Nerf team is the same team behind the Super Soaker brand, so it's possible that the recent focus on Nerf is a temporary distraction, but I don't consider that likely.

I like the Pulse Blasters, although a couple of them look exceptionally plasticky and fragile.

The older demographic and the hardcore demographic (which are generally the same thing) are a very small part of the water gun market. We're nothing. Why should they build what we want? They're designing water guns that appeal to (A) little kids who aren't so ambitious and (B) parents who are buying toys for their kids, and who aren't exactly won over by larger, more expensive, and more "dangerous" toys.

I wish Lonnie Johnson himself would take a step back to toys again.
yet he is so happy with his research company.

Like maybe he could have a small toy development wing on the side of his company.

just think

JRg = Johnson Research Group

A thread on iSoaker has some of the 2009 Water Warriors soakers. The Deluge, the Equalizer, the Renegade, and the Vindicator. They basically look the same, except for the size. They seem to have both pumps and triggers so they're either air-pressured or "HydroPower".

I think Water Warriors is going to "replace" Super Soaker if they keep their trend of improvement. While they still aren't up to the level of performance of the old Super Soakers, if they keep on working like they have been, they might catch up.

Just taken a look on the site. They look fairly good. Isoaker reckon the biggest is CPS, the mid seperate PC, and the small PR (and there's an even smaller one, the deluge).

The design is a bit unusual. The trigger grip is right at the back, which means the guns won't be easily usable one-handed, but readily held with one hand on the trigger and the other on the pump grip. Or the largest one, with a shoulder strap, could be shot from the hip.

Certainly looks like a good new crop, though I guess we'll have to wait to find out how they perform.

Something has just occurred to me...

CPS blasters have already come back, but in very limited forms.
The Cylindrical CPS designs in the new aqua shock guns and some of the 2005 soaker tag ones all count in CPS.

The Release of these CPS blasters was like 2 or 3 guns a year, now look back at larami. 3 or 4 CPS guns a year on average. The CPS guns came in a mix of PC and PumpFire guns every year.

So logically we should not pray for CPS to come back but for Hasbro to improve on this new breed of CPS and possibly Eventually bring them up to par with the old CPS line. (But with less crappy names) Cause lets just face it. the Corporate mind of Hasbro is not going to look at the old and bring them back but rather update guns made 2 years earlier with a more complicated trigger system.(Liquidator's trigger system is completely overly complex and hard to fix, most likely a failsafe against modders

Hm. On the other hand. If the economy isn't doing as well, shelf space will be at less of a premium, making it easier to sell large guns? I don't think we're likely to see much change from the presidency unless Obama deicdes to CEO Hasbro instead of the country.
